how big of a heater and what brand should I get for about 100 gallons of water?? Would 300 watts suffice?

house doesnt get below 60 in the winter or above 75 in the summer. Ive used Won and Jager before with success but I dont know how much juice I need to maintain a 78 temp.

Suggestions?

Also, if anyone has a heater in good shape that would do the job lying around I would be happy to buy it.

i like the stealths. since they will be in the sump of my new tank i got 3 100w for (rated f/30g ea.) for a 70g tank.

and 3-100watt heaters will do the job of 1-300 watt heater? I suppose that makes sense but I didnt know if people did that.

I have 2 extra Ebo Jager's:
1x 150w and 1x 200w...Give em both to ya for 30 bucks, I dont have the suction cups for them though.

Let me know,
Steven

Well I'm running a 250 on my 30G and it does not put out enough in the winter.. So I have to add another 250 for winter and even then they both strugle to keep up.

Granted my house is in the 50's in the winter..

steven, pm sent...sounds like 2 heaters is the way to go! 300 watts total should suffice..

500watts on a 30 gallon??? Where do you live the Artic?? LOL

Wow Steve, Are your tanks like right near a drafty window? or directly underneath or above an HVAC register? Are you sure your heaters are drawing that many watts (i.e. Kill-A-Watt?) and are your heaters in a high flow area???

I only ask as that seems ludicrous?

Well in the winter I like the fresh air smell, so the sliding glass door in the back is open almost 24/7 in the winter (Except when were not home)

So it's VERY drafty!!!

Yeah both heaters are in the sump and do draw ~250 each
:)

I recommend going redundant heaters. I think 2x150s or 200s would do the trick. Also, you would do well to use an external controller, rather than use the built in temp controller on most heaters. I find they rarely work and are never accurate. When using 2, it makes it even more difficult to manage.

thanks guys...i got 2 250 ebos essentially brand new for a great deal! Thanks for everyones input!
