Heaters keep breaking

I have gone through about 5 or 6 heaters and am looking for a heater that is not as likely to break any ideas on a brand that will last me a while?

I am currently using 2 400 watt Hydor THEO Heater

Thanks in advance

+1 on the ehiem. And make sure your heaters are in a good flow area. When they are in still water they just click on and off and cycle way more times than they should.

+2 on the Eheim/ Jager. I just bought (2) 300w for my 180 (redundancy) and I am impressed with the quality over the Theo I use for heating my saltwater. Even though they are 300W, they are very long heaters so the heat is spread out evenly.

Are you heaters in the display tank now? Any signs of a mantis shrimp? Ive never heard of that many heaters breaking before, its normally rare for a heater to break.

No mantis shrimp, they are not cracking just heating uncontrollably. I will turn it down to 70 and the tank will heat to 84 and then I will unplug them and it will go down to 78 and so that happened again yesterday and I unplugged them and put in my back up heater. Im gonna be trying this brand and putting them in the sump this time hope it works better for me thank you guys for all the help.

I keep one in the DT and one in the sump set a couple of degreese apart. That way just one is drawing juice most of the time that a heater is required and the second will kick in if needed. Also I do it that way so that if I loose the return pump for some reason other then a power outage then I still have heat in the DT. I also agree with running a tank controller and/or heater temp controllers as a safety net for the heaters thermostats. Many people put a whole lot of money, livestock, and time in the trust of a $20 heater.

I prefer titanium heaters with an external temp controller like the Via Aqua titanium heaters. I have yet to have one fail on me and the price isnt all that much more than a standard heater.

They will never break and the controller seems more reliable, probably because it doesnt have to be packed into a small waterproof space.

+1 on this. All standard hobby heaters are cheap crap, even the so called good ones I would never trust.

I use a titanium heating element only, controlled by a neptune controller. Ideally it would be a Ranco only or used in conjucntion, but either one is so much safer than hobby thermostate controlled heaters. I've been using titanium tubes for years and only had one break, completely my fault for exposing it to air suring a water change...it cooked its rubber endcaps. Finnex is the brand i use btw.

I only buy heaters with life time warranty. All of them are junk. Even the ehiem now since they are made in China.

Buy the good one with a plastic cover on it...

There Is a nice one that has digital readout and a shatter proof case... Bout $60 fo a 50 gal hater... Well worth it... Never cut corners in regards to heaters...

Come to think of it I saw some titanium ones all metal... But Ive never used one so don't ask me how they work :spin3:
