So what is everyone using for heaters with their reef keepers or apex? Also should or do u run titanium heaters by themselves with just your rk or apex without a second controller and just trust the rk or apex?

The popular heaters on here and for me personally are the Ebo Jager heaters. They are very reliable by themselves, but it's always safe to have them on a controller. Since you have a controller, I wouldn't see the need for a secondary heater controller running off your main controller, unless you wanted the setup to be really redundant.

Two 300 W Jagers on a ReefKeeper 2. Had a little problem with the ReefKeeper that I'll pass on to you. The lights to my heaters were coming on, but when I wrapped my hand around the heaters, no heat. I thought it odd that both heaters were shot and the light was still on, but I had extra heaters sitting on the shelf and switched them out. I threw out the old heaters and the following day the tank was still cool. Again, the lights in the heaters were on, but no heat....and these were two new heaters. Bottom line, it was the ReefKeeper. So I now run my heaters through a ReefKeeper 2 plug Expansion Socket that has its own dedicated power supply. Don't know why the ReefKeeper supplied enough juice to turn on the lights, but no heat. It works just fine now with the Expansion Socket.

Yea that's weird. I haven't had my reef keeper long so I'm just trying to get as much info as possible.

I tell you what don't get the JBJ heaters. Ive heard so many horror stories, and mine shocked the hell out of me one day i stuck my hand in the sump.

I am using a Visi-therm 250 on my tank. I have it plugged into one of the regular sockets on the RK2. Works fine. I set the heater to about 80F and set the controller to 79F. I figure if the heater sticks on I still have the RK, and if the RK fails I am probably screwed anyway since it controls everything. There's a cheerful thought :)
