heating a 5g hex

After being out of the hobby for years I am getting back into it with a 5g eclipse hex tank.

I am not sure if i'm gonna go nano reef or planted FW, but whichever one I end up doing I need to figure out how to heat it. I have only had big tanks in the past so it seems kinda silly to put a submersible heater in the tank, it will fill up the whole back wall wont it?

make a sump for it and put it in there is my only guess, but you will need one, smaller tnaks lose their heat faster, i had a heater fail ion a 10 gallon holding some lr, within an hour it was down to about 60 degrees for maround 78

during a 12 hours power outage, my 29 barely swayed, though it wans t reef then so i was lucky!

i have a the same tank, i use a 50 watt stealth heater, a 25 would work also. Since the tank is arcylic it holds heat much better than glass does and also the eclipse is completly covered so there is little heat loss, and with a strong light it could be a problem in the summer.

the stealth is a black submersible that i have placed in the corner, its a little big, but if you put it in the corner in the back, the light doesnt hit the top part and the lower part will be covered by rock or something

Fyi
if you have a reef or a planted tank you need to upgrade the lighting.
coralife makes a 10 and 20 watt compact florusent? screw in bulb, i use a 20 watt 50/50, you just have to make a few mods to make the larger 20 to fit
