Should i buy a Helfrichi firefish? (Nemateleotris helfrichi) My supplier has a few available for a limited time. Should i buy one for my personal nano? I love the coloring.

Large it's 6 - 7cm at max it should be fine a 12 gallon, great fish maybe keep it in a species tank as its quite delicate.

Don't put it in any tank that is not covered. It will leap out of an uncovered tank.

espo:
I have no other fish in my tank so i feel as if it would be fine.

Yeah i already found one on the floor that looked like a toothpick on my last setup. I have a 150w mh on my 12g and it has a hood i made that allows for perfect temps and the security of not finding "fish-picks"

I really wanted one of these, but because they come from cooler temperatures I assumed the temperature of my tank would be a stressor (80-82F)

Is this from Quality Marine and the "new variation"? Unless your tank runs on the cool side (75 or under) I'd avoid them.

Marshall islands water is actually quite warm - about 80 degrees (even at 100 feet where helfrichi are caught) If decompressed properly they are a very tough fish (minus being bullied)

75-82 degrees is fine as long as it doesn't fluctuate a lot. I had a terrible spike from 79 to 89 in 4 or 5 hours and killed 3 helfrichi (and a bunch of other deep water fish).

Large fluctuations and very high temps will kill them but other than that a 12 gallon nano is perfect size! you could even throw in a pair of clowns or something.

Im just debating what fish i should even put in my tank. I have had my tanks over the years but with space being a problem i only have my ap 12g(old fish room is now a nursery) imo i can care less if there are anyfish in my tank... but to justify spending my fiance has to like the tank some what.

I second the percs! I originally bought mine to placate my boyfriend, who thought a reef without fish was ridiculous! (and, looking back, it really was.)

Now I have an orange and a black perc... they are so cute, and the color difference is stunning!
