Hi, My name is Dave and i joined this forum a while ago hopeing to use it more than i have but decided to upgrade so thats what ive been doing for a while. Currently I live in Wigan UK near Liverpool and Manchester.
I decided to upgrade from my old tank due to wanting more room for the fish and corals. Here is my old tank
I was having problems with condesation all over my walls which was driving me and the mrs mad so another challenge was to stop this happening. Anyway now heres the new tank
first of all we decided to Get rid of the hard floor we had installed since me moved into the house and this time we would have carpet (so much warmer). I created a small area of wooden floor so the tank could sit on that, the area was larger than the tank so we would have a splash zone.
We decided to put the tank next to the window so the corals could get some direct sun and also i could install an extractor fan to reduce the condensation. The fan comes on when the humidity rises
Lights are a Arcadia Series 3 2 x 250w halides with t5 mods hung on microwave brackets for kitchens
The tank has been built with a display DSB in mind but ive asked them to have a 5 inch upstand around the bottom of the tank to hide it. The dsb has been built using carribsea aragamax sugar fine sand
I began nthinking about the rocks before the tank arrived and decided that less would be the best option. I decided to get rid of 50 percent of the rockwork to allow more flow and a larger surface area for the DSB. I created a large structure using reef bones and epo putty but the structure was built so it would not take space from the dsb and would just stand on a small area
