i've recently wanted to place a new anemone with my maroon clowns...my problem is they were hosted by a green bubble tip, but unfortunately i lost my anemone lost to my circulation pump. i was wanting to replace it but was thinking of putting a different tip in, like rose bubble or sebae is that ok or do i need to just replace with another green bubble.....please help because my clowns are kinda sad

While it may be a bandage, there has to be a start somewhere.

When he gets another one, at least then the flow will be protected.

In a true anemone tank there should be no power heads, for safety. Thing is most of us have PH in them. Either CL or extra flow from return pumps would provide a safe environment.

Tatuafe08 if you look at the threads in this section over the last year you will see how many people have lost one to a PH compared to poor water chemistry. Not to take in to affect the poor shipping.

A little planning on that aspect can reduce, not negate, the possibility, and provide enough flow for everything else.

I completely agree. Nems caught up in powerhead blenders not only die, but can take out an entire tank. It's always a good reminder to those with anemones to watch for movement -- especially with BTAs that tend to float around the tank when not happy -- and to keep those powerheads covered. Foam covers on Vortechs help as well, but are like condoms -- not 100% safe. My gig managed to get through the foam cover on my MP40 and got chewed up a bit.

To the OP.... fortunately for you, the natural host of Maroons are BTAs. All BTAs are mostly the same -- whether green or red or pink or purple with white tips. They can even be mixed. I say "mostly" because some are solitary while others form colonies, but this doesn't have any bearing in our tanks, except that some may split and some won't.

If I were you, I'd stick with BTAs -- you can get a lot of nice color variations, and I personally think they look pretty cool when mixed together. And they're one of the easiest nems to keep.

my maxijet is in circulation mode, placing something over it would inhibit my flow right.....

I don't know if they make guards for maxijets. You may need to DIY something. Here's what the ones for my MP40s look like:

The flow will decrease if not cleaned periodically, but this is why they sell them in packs of three.

How about getting back to the original question. You do not need to go with a green BTA, in fact you don't have to go with a BTA. Just look up which anemones naturally host Maroons, although I believe BTA's are about the only ones that host Maroons.

Wrong. Also ritteri and lta.

Maroons can host anything, but if your talking about the wild than you would be wrong

LTA's are not a natural host to maroons

In Scott michaels clownfish and anemone book he does have a pic of a maroon pair hosting a ritteri in the wild, but it is not common. BTA's are the natural/preffered host to maroons.

sebae, bta, and large carpet anemones are what i have to choose from...i know what kind of nem host...i'm asking do i need to replace the bta i once had or can i place a sebae in my tank

The maroon can host any of those in a tank. If they do or not is up to them. I have had GSM maroons host haddoni, LTA's, and BTA's.

I would go with the largest one. Nations are rough on nems, especially large females. They will easily stress out, and kill nems.
