The new system in Nitro is a big ole tank for sure, definitely gonna be a task to work in the lower portion.
A little bit about my system... I've had some sort of salt system up almost continually since 2008 with varied levels of success, but only started the process in motion for this one in November.
Im hoping to pool my experiences from the last few years into this setup which will be almost entirely SPS/Clam, with likely a few Acans or really special LPS that particularly catch my eye.
I originally intended on setting up a 48x24 120 gallon, however after buying/selling/remodeling a few properties I fell in love with a house that had a perfect spot to accommodate a 36x36x27 150 Gallon Deep Dimension tank, from this point it was off to the races.
I started out with dry rock nearly a year ago, and after a light acid bath I let it cure for around 4 months with no light but regular feedings and monthly 100% water changes.
After I got the tank/stand in place around January I built the sump and got all my plumbing glued together and leak tested, the rock made the jump into the actual tank along with Tropic Eden sand and a load of water I had already made up... I am using the corner overflow in a Herbie style siphon setup with the return run over the back powered by an Eheim 1262.
Everything is controlled by an Apex Lite.
Lighting is handled by an ATI 10x39 Powermodule, hung from a pair of arms I fabricated with a bunch of random parts from Home Depot.
In tank circulation consists of four Tunze power heads, with the bulk of the work being done by a pair of 6095's on a 7095 Controller.
Nutrient management is also quite simple, a SRO XP2000int handles the skimming while a pair of reactors house GFO and Carbon, and a Bubble Magus doser adds organic carbon in the form of vinegar periodically throughout the day. Today my tests read 0ppm Nitrate, and 0.04ppm Phosphate.
Ca/Alk/Mg are also very simple, with the Calcium and Alkalinity in the forms of Calcium Chloride and Sodium Carbonate being periodically added via the aforementioned Bubble Magus doser. Magnesium is added whenever I get bored and feel like doing something. Calcium is maintained at 420ppm, Alkalinity at 8.5DKH, and Magnesium at 1400.
Stocking is coming along fairly well thus far, with a pair of ORA Ocellaris clowns, an ORA Yellow Assessor, a Linespot Flasher Wrasse, a Foxface Lo, and a Wheeler's Shrimp Goby for the fish.
I've got a very large/diverse cleanup crew to help handle the bioload: Nassarius, Florida Cerith, and Dwarf Cerith snails; Blue, red, and thin legged hermit crabs; emerald crabs; and a single Scarlet cleaner shrimp.
Corals consist of about 10 Acro frags, half a dozen other SPS pieces, and a few leftover straggler LPS and Zoas that need rehomed. The Across just arrived about a week ago, so I'm not sure how they will fare, but my Stylo/Montis/Birdsnests have all put on extremely good growth in just a couple months, so I'm feeling cautiously optimistic about their chances of flourishing.
That's about all for now!
