Hello Wine Country Reefers

Hi everyone,

Thank you for electing me as your club's president for the coming year. I would like to set up this thread to encourage you to provide us with ideas on how to make this coming year more exciting and successful for our club.

Currently, we have a meeting every month and I would like to ask everyone to make an effort to show up to our meetings. This will help provide us with the energy to work harder behind the scene to make the meetings informative, exciting, and fun.

Grant and I are in the process of putting together frag tanks to propagate corals to raise revenues for the club, These corals will be raffle off at each of the meetings, with the additional revenues we will be able to bring in even more captive bred corals to "share" among the members.

We have a list of meetings and contents but before we announce it we would like to hear from you, what would you like to see at each of the meeting?

Thanks for your input.

Tom

Hey cowgirl, Welcome. We have been around for a few years now. I have been a member for about a year. What kind of tank, etc do you have? We meet once a month as Tom(northbay-reefer) just stated and all are welcome. Grant

Hi. I have a 12g bio cube that I'm turning into a nano reef. Currently has a true perc and an antenna goby. And my new 72g bow wich I'm pretty sure is going to be fowlr. I'm excited about learning more and it's cool there are people so close.

Well you've come to the right place there are a lot of very knowledgeable reefers in the club and they don't mind sharing both info and corals. You should come to the Jan. meeting.

Where do you have meetings? Sounds cool. I've been trying to decide what to add to the 12bc. It's hard being indecisive. :)

Welcome Cowgirlup9, for a small cube your are better off adding softies like zoas, ricordia, and lps. Are you going to plumb your cube and your bow front tank together?

Still haven't got any sugestions :D someone need to jump start this, who will it be?

Ok, for those that are lurking but don't say anything, please come in and speak now or forever keep your piece to yourself j/k :D :D

Some ideas:

You can talk about thing that you would like to have at our meetings, things that you don't like about the meetings, things that you would like to add.

For me, I enjoy the meetings at Union hotel having food, wine/beer, however, I don't think it is productive enough. The place can be crowded and loud, hard to keep a conversation going from one end of the table to the other end. In the summer time meeting there out in the patio works the best, winter time we might need a different location. I think every meeting should have a topic on how to improve reef keeping techniques, a frag swap, a raffle and a place to exchange information and helping each other. I also like to change up our meeting and do field trips to support the local LFS or the bay area and Sacto LFS. Maybe even joining other club's meetings if they have a awesome speaker speaking on an important topic.

Ok NEXT :D

Hey Tom,
When the weather gets a little better we have talked a few times about having a meeting at the winery. Oh and congrats on your nomination, i would have voted for you too.

Discussion, If we havn't selected one prior to meeting we could have a round table type where we all state what we are having trouble with if anything and all work that subject then move on to the next person.I hope that made sense. :)

Chris, Thanks Chris, yeap I love to have a meeting at a winery even in the winter time. You have a place in mind?

Grant, so you mean talking about our own problem like at the AA meeting? j/k lol ... Sounds like a great idea, we can integrate that into one of the meeting.

I also like some DIY meetings too where people bring in their DIY ideas and build it.

Tom,

You have a lot of knowledge in the DIY department. I think doing some DIY meetings are a great idea. I'm sure someone in the club needs more rock in the tank and you taught me how to make the rock structures for my tank.

If anyone is planning on doing DIY lights we could have a wiring meeting. I did mine and I'll just say it was not easy. I have 6 ballasts for my tank.

I'd love to learn / try fish breeding!

Also I like to hear what people feed the tank, how much and what time.

One of my favorite meetings to date was the one at your house with Reef nutrition. I'd even like to hear it again. When I first started we had a QT/ dip / acclamation presentation. I'm sure that saved me from a few disasters

Lately I have really been working on keeping things constant....the tips of all the SPS have that grow look to them, finally!

Shane, we are planing to do an aquascape meeting and showing people how to put together rocks structures and how to place it inside your tank to improve flows. Also I love your idea on the Dip/aclamation for corals to avoid pests.

Congrat on the start of new growth on your sps. It's always exciting to see that after spending countless hours, days and months to maintain an sps tank.

Cool, this is exactly what I was looking for, something unique to just this area and no where else. Let's talk about it more when you come over tomorrow.
