Something tells me that you didn't set your heater to 95 degrees. If so, then this was not something that you should beat yourself up over. I'm sad for your losses but now you are making a change to prevent future losses. Equipment failures have happened to many people, including myself.

Keep your chin up. This has happened many people and you are making a change to prevent it in the future.
