HELP!!!!!!!!!! Anemone dying????

http://www.reefcentral.com/modules.php?s=&name=Content&pa=showpage&pid=1&page=2

If you stock your aquarium before it has cycled properly, you will probably kill your animals. If you stock to rapidly, your tank will have another ammonia/nitrite spike, again probably killing your animals. At best, you will have problem algae, and sick fish. Remember that this is a long-term hobby. It is not uncommon for a tank to only stabilise properly after 6 months. Your corals can outlive you, and even the most common fish can live longer than 20 years, if you do your bit....

Nobody was bashing you! We were trying to help. What are we supposed to think when you ask questions like: What will happen to my corals if my anemone dies? I have high amonia and nitrates, should I do a water change? How to raise salinity? What temp is good?

Then we find out your tank is 5 weeks old, and overstocked for being so new, you are treating Ich with hyposalinity with an anemone in the tank. You don't own a QT tank. You should know by now to research before you buy.

You refused to give any details about your equipment and water chemistry. Some details finally came out, but not nearly enough.

Your questions were answered the best they could be with the little information you provided. There were suggestions made to you so you could better your knowledge and help your anemone. I suggest you take that advise.

If you don't want help, don't ask for it!

All I said is that all tanks don't have to go through a cycle, thats it!

I am well aware that some people think u should wait 6 months before adding a nem, I had others tell me differently. I also have heard of other ways to raise the sg, besides a water change. My LFS guy says you can add salt directly to your sump/filter, and he does it successfully.

You guys should have your own books.......

We do have our own books! Your LFS guy is an idiot for telling you that.

Yeah...I know I have zero experience, but I'm assuming your LFS guy isn't a published biologist or zoologist...and every book I've ever read has advised strongly against mixing salt in directly to your system.

Thank you Slakker! For someone that doesn't have a reef tank, I believe when you do, you will do a fine job! You have by far put more effort into research than anyone I know before the purchase! Your efforts will pay off!

Well...I'm embarrassed to admit that if I had 1200 some dollars and my own house, I would probably already have the 90 system that I'm planning. However, the couple of LFS that I went to, while helpful, just didn't really have the time to answer every little question I had. So, while I bide my time waiting for funding and space, I read, and troll around here on RC, and I try to learn a thing or two along the way. Although, if I had saved the $150 or so I've spent on books so far, I'd probably be a little bit closer to buying a tank...

And, also, in fairness, Random Aquarist has spent something like two years researching his setup before finally setting it up just recently.

texas cowboy. you need to take everything out of your tank immediately. Everything will die. The nems need a stable evironment to thrive. Nothing less than 6 months IMO. You have to be patient w/ this hobby. Return the nems to LFS and wait. Good luck.

At least you don't have to go through the old school 6 week cycle, it can be done successfully in 1 day!

Buddy you know nothing! your the one crying on this message board that your **** is dieing.

stop with the crap and take your stuff out of your tank.

All of us have sucessful tanks unlike your's

Adding salt directy to the tank, or adding freshly mixed salt water makes the water caustic. Its chemistry, not advice.

Mix your W/C water in a plastic bin, use a PH and circulate it for 24 hrs, and then do the w/c.

Amm will kill your live stock. You need to do some larg W/Cs to fix that. Also, messing with things, like doing water changes causes stress. Stress lowers the tollerance to disease, and makes getting over stuff lik ich harder, but in this case, Amm is harder, so do the w/c.

Rule number 1, research what ANYONE tells you. If you can find references in reef books, you are in better shape going with advice. Remember, LFS people are trying to sell you stuff. If you fish all live for 10 years, they cannot sell you more. Im not saying everything they say is a lie, but if your LFG guy said he adds satl directly to his tank, anything else he tells you is suspect.

FYI, if your clown has ich, the symbiotic relationship with the anemone will help take care of that provided the anemone is alright.

i am still a newbie.....but in all my research, i have NEVER heard of anyone, "cycling" a tank in one day. now maybe if you get established, LS, LR, and water, you can set up your tank, and put in livestock all in one day. but that's not what I would call a "cycyle".
