Help Bubble Tip Eating Fish

I came home to my Bubble Tip Eating my Naso Tang! The bubble tip is very big almost 7 inches across when fully open. Should I remove the fish now or wait until the anemone lets it go? The fish is about 1/2 way in the anemone right now.

I would remove it slowly, but the bigger issue is what was wrong with the tang? Was it sick, have ich, ect?

Not really sure.. I picked him up last week and he was doing great. The blue fin coral angel was a little aggressive at first with him but the tang stayed in the opposite side of the tank and continued eating. I haven't had a ich issue yet so I'm not completely sure what to look for.

I was having issues feeding my bubble because the cleaner shrimp would jump in and eat out of it after the anemone was fed. I started to feed the cleaner first to prevent this.

the only reason I say the tang was either dead or sick before the anemone got it is because a BTA is one that don't have a strong enough sting to kill a healthy naso tang.

and just looking at the pic it looks like there is ich on the tank but can't tell if thats sand or bubbles or what for sure.

I didn't think that was normal, I was afraid my anemone was a killer. Do you mean the discoloration on the tang? I assumed it was from it dieing, they are s a slightly white makings on body. A few days earlier I noticed the lips turn a little white but they seemed to go away after a day. The tank is BB the only sand would be just a small amount from the live rock. The moonlights are on so its hard to see. I can post pics once I finish pulling the fish.

Should I treat the tank for ich? I dont want to lose any more fish. Do I need to do anything for my anemone?

i bet the tang died from ich and new environment, only way to treat the tank for ich is to remove all fish for 12 weeks and just let the tank run. you cant use any copper medications cause clearly you have inverts in the tank, so snail, hermits, anemone and shrimp would perish if you used copper based meds.

ich can def be on a fish and fall off a day or two later, and i would imagine you have ich spores floating around your water column now, and all fish are susceptible to it now

I was just talking about how I had not one, but THREE naso's that just swam straight into my crispa on intro, like they just had no clue on what a nem is.
Pretty sure they thought it looked like a safe place to hide out!lol
Now mine were very young blonds, very small, so I probably would also suspect yours to be sick or something, but sometimes it just happens.
I would be inclined to carefully remove it, trust me, seeing naso bones spit out later is going to double your bummer...and it could potentially be an issue for the nem.

Given the right conditions any anemone is strong enough to kill any fish.

Once nemocysts start firing from tentacles it doesnt matter whats it hooking into. Especially a larger bta that is particularly healthy and a newly introduced fish.

Thanks a lot everyone. I think that I did have a case of Ich with the naso. I noticed that the Coral beauty's lips started to turn a slight white. I treated the tank with Ich-X and the discoloration returned to normal. No loss of fish yet and everyone is looking healthy.



I also set up a QT tank today.. Lesson Learned.
