Help Chalices are Melting Away.

No all bugs are gone now after 2-3 months at war with these little critter. I would recommend that you always dip your coral no matter whom you brought it from. That was the mistake i made and it cost me a few chalices and almost all my aussie acan collection. From 15-20 colony to one colony and three 10polyp frags. For a while i could not figure out wat was going on until Reefmonger pm me and told me to try interceptor. I try everything else and nothing seem to work so i gave it a try and the corals within 24 hours was puffing back and up and looking much better. I am paranoid so i follow up with three more treatment. Now my tank is looking much better that ever. So Hens4Fish you have to no worries but i would still recommend you ALWAYS DIP YOUR CORALS before even putting into you display tank. Some people even set up a quarantine tank just to make double sure there are no bugs or parasite on the new corals they buy. I hope that clear things up for you buddy.

I am so glad this thread was pointed out to me. I have lost a TON of lps over the past weeks. I must say Meisen, I am disapointed in you for not mentioning this one!
I will be taking a swab of the infected area to look at under my microscope, and document this as much as I can.
Todate I have tried the metafix, revive, looked at everything possible in water quality, lighting, as well as flow, feeding, ect, ect.
This could be my only hope and while I have lost thousands and thousands of dollars with of coral, my wilsonis are not hit yet and if I could prevent that it would be great.
The common threads here are aussie corals, started with chalices, and the way and spead of death.
I will update with as much specific details as I can.

For some of the questions on the earlier pages, my system is monitored with a ph controller and it has been stable, I test ALK weekly and that has been stable as well.

I have had a handful of people try it and said it worked well after I tried it on my tank. I hit my 180 with an extra strong dose I think of 2 of the biggest tablets.

i use one big tab every time i dose my 65 gallon with 20 gallon sump. I tell ya it only took 1 day and you can see that the corals are more happy. I recommend water change within 24 hours because there might be alot of die off from the shrimps and pods. Just to be sure they are gone i did it again every month for three month straight now they are all gone. Just a quick question for all those whom use interceptor, how long does the interceptor stay in the water.

This thread has me worrying! I've been losing Micro's left and right and a couple acans ... they just melt away and I can't stop it. I've blamed the issues on high Nitrates from my overfeeding for high fish load waiting for the new system to be plumbed ... maybe it's not that at all! I might have to hit Interceptor when I get home from the RAP Show :-(

I also see a common thread with the Aussies ... especially for RobTop, Meisen and myself as we have gotten the same stuff via the same route!

I definately receive it from the aussie corals " i am not blaming anyone" just to clarify that. This has never happen until the aussie acan went into the display and it attack micros, chalices, lobo, scoly, and most LPS. You will notice white stringy stuff where the coral is receding. I would recommend you dose ASAP or else matter will just get worse.

Grab a stray off the street, feed it, and take it in to the vet. It gets a free check-up and meal, and you get Interceptor. Everyone wins!

Well my vet wont give me interceptor and i have no cat or dog anymore. Where can I get it online?

Then find a different vet...if you explain to them what you are planning on using it for, maybe even go so far as printing off a few articles from the internet, they should be able to prescribe some to you.

If not, then go down the road to the next vet

Started the Interceptor an hour and a half ago ... crossing my fingers this is some sort of resolution to the slow die offs!

I too dip everything going into my tank and highly recommend that to everyone. Looks like I'm now going to add an Interceptor QT protocol to my incoming LPS as well ... thought I left that behind with SPS!

If I were to run a 10 gallon QT tank how much interceptor is sufficient? And how long would you recommend dipping chalices compared to acans, is there a diffrence in time? Please help, just got a chalice colony and already its receeding.

The big pill treats like 800 gallons so calculate from there.

Doesn't the large dog pill treats 380 gallons???

I have the notes jotted down at home, but that sounds correct to me. I don't think it's 800 gallons. Granted, those notes are built for killing SPS RedBugs, not for the more "mystery" creature/item that people are trying to wipe out here.

Has anyone treated their LPS outside the display tank (in a QT) with interceptor? If so, how long did you leave out of display before putting back in?

Think it is 300 gallons for the large pill, but am not sure. Yes, you can do quarantine. Several hours to 2 days.
