Help choosing a nem

I am lookign for a new new for my tank. I want something bright, thick, and long tenticles. My first question is do Entacmaea quadricolor and typical RBTA have the same tenticle length? any recomendations aside from these 2. Where do people usually find the nicely colored ones?

Hello, all depends on the size of your tank, clownfishes you have or want to buy etc. Entacmea Quadricolor is very nice anemone. Does not grow so fast, has great colors and is not so sticky to kill most of fishes, you can have in your your tank. But is not very good for A. ocellaris. They rarely domesticate this type of anemone, cause they don't live there in nature. But for A. clarkii, A. chrysogaster and others is ok. So if you have or plan to buy A. ocellaris, I would recommend better Heteractis crispa. H. magnifica is nice too, but it grows so fast, that in one year you will have tank full of this anemone. :spin3:

EDIT: And one more hint. When you choose the E. quadricolor, try to get bigger one, cause clownfishes does not like small ones.

You have six other clowns or other fishes in the cube?

For ocellaris and percs clownfishes I would choose H. crispa(LTA anemone). H. magnifica is really fast growing and carpet anemones Stychodactyla are really dangerous for any other fishes, cause these anemones are really good fish hunter.

In example my ocellaris pair is ignoring any anemone, they just adopted Sarcophyton and are they most of the day.

This is an interesting thread..couze i need also to choose a nem and clown to my new cube nem tank!

I like very much the ocellaris and the frenatus clown, and like a nem i though about BTA E.quadricolor.

But it seems they don't go in symbiosis togheter..right?

Hello Khendal, i didn't see it myself, but A. frenatus lives in nature in symbiosis with E. quadricolor(BTA), so they should go into this type of anemone.

With A. ocellaris it is a bit harder. It depends on each fish/pair. I saw some percs in this anemone, but mostly they just ignore it. And sometimes need time to settle in it, for about year or two. For ocellaris is the best, when you buy H. magnifica, but as I said, it grows fast.

Didn't want to confuse people. Thats why I always write latin name, so everyone knows, I am talking about this or that.

H. crispa's type is LTA. It has long tentacles, same as Macrodactyla doreensis. But is fact, that usually is H. crispa known as leather or sebae anemone. And you can see that also in some posts here on ReefCentral.

Yes, both are called LTA.
Typically when I see LTA most are talking about M.doreensis, and most call a crispa a sebae, but not always.
