Help confirm my coral ID

So... I wondered the same thing. It's my only smooth skinned acro and the last one I added to the tank ~ December '15.

I always take pictures with the UV off, and you see how pink and smooth they look pink-on-pink. This time, I used the UV to show how it glows and noticed them.

I took a video to confirm and yes, I think they're red bugs. I'm surprised because I didn't think coral can grow with red bugs on it. I'll post the video in another thread since I want this one focused on coral ID. I'm amazed how UV makes them pop up so clearly.

I took it out immediately and dipped it in Bayer. None visible in QT. since it's the only smoothed skinned acro, I think the rest are safe, but I'll be checking them.

Eh. I wish you the best in treating them. I've never seen one coral get all of the bugs, usually if you see it on one they're on all of them :-/

Post a link if you start a new thread, I'll be interested to see how it goes. Good luck!

If they're in any of the others, they're not visible. I checked all the Acropora.

With red bugs, I'd expect some diminished growth rate or discoloration? All my acros have been growing like weeds. This was the slowest one, but I attributed that to it being a low light coral in a very bright tank.

I don't think they get to other SPS, but I'll check. The adjacent corals were the brown with pink tip monti digitata and a green star polyp. Both are bursting at their growth limits...

Maybe the melanarus, yellow banana and six line wrasses have been working on keeping them contained? Or it could be the army of 10 banded coral shrimp I have on patrol :D

Anyway... I'll keep checking.
