Usually my clam is up high but today i noticed it fell onto the floor and what seems to be the foot is still on the rock, is my clam going to be ok? what would cause this it has been in there for about a year now

i will get one tommorow will be going to work soon, seems like big chunk of tissue remaining on the rock would assume that was it

Not necessarily true, but in most cases if the foot is ripped off an infection causing the clam to do would be probable. But if it just left a bunch of bysmal threads I probably wouldn't worry about it...But a picture would help greatly.

This same thing happened to me just the other day... well, not me, but my Maxima. I noticed a large chunk of tissue and the clam was on its side. I looked under the clam and could see a bit of tissue still inside. it took several days for it to reattach, but once it was happy it reattached no problem.

They can drop the byssal threads at will I guess and that does not mean that they have lost the byssal gland. So, make sure you give us an update on how yours is doing.
