Dan,
I have a male erectus that has been bloated for two days. Today I attempted to evacuate his pouch by massage and by syringe that I have received by OR. I have opened his pouch but cannot get any bubbles to come out. I have also noticed a few sores on the end of his tail. I need to know what king of meds to buy at my lfs to treat him in the hospital tank. Can you please let me know asap? Thanks
Sue:(

nonna,

i'm sorry i didn't see your thread earlier. is the male floating? i know you mentioned in the other thread that he was bloated but swimming normally. did he eat at all today?

i'm afraid finding decent meds at a LFS can be a challenge, can you call dan first thing in the morning? he's in florida as well. i also order stuff from http://www.fishyfarmacy.com/products.html but they're in arizona. you may be able to find furan2 or triple sulfa if your lucky. if you're in a rural area you can see if any of the feed stores carry neomycin (aka biosol).

can you post a picture at all of the tail and the pouch? if not, go here and see if one of them is what you're seeing http://forum.seahorse.org/index.php?showforum=63

in the interim, do you have anything like hikari biobandage (that you can probably get at your LFS), neosporin or betadine?

any other horses affected? what's your current tank temp?

I have no meds at all. Temp is at 74. No other horses affected but him. Yes he is floating now. His skin is irritated where I tried to evacuate his pouch and he has like whiteheads on the end of his tail. He is in distress. Has not eaten in a few days either. I will call Dan this morning as well as my LFS to see what I can get. Thanks
Sue

I'd call Dan too. If your a member of the org post in the ER forum. Sometimes people have extra meds on hand that are close to you.
