Hey everyone im new to the forum, i just dipped my zoas with iodine and after i pulled them out of the dip, and rinsed them with a bucket of water from the tank i noticed a lot of them expelled all the zooaxnthelle*. A lot are all brown now and lost all colors...what should i do? I just put them back into the tank and am hoping they are going to be fine again...

saw that i had some brown flatworms on my plugs, used lugold iodine 40 drops to the gallon as that was what i was told by a lfs and used r/o up to temp and dipped them for about 10 mins and when i pulled them out to rinse them in a container or salt water from the tank, a lot of the zoas had no color and brown goop all over them

I don't have much experience with "dips" but I thought that iodine dips were to treat diseased or damaged corals. A Fresh Water dip would benefit an infested coral better than an iodine dip.

Iodine kills inverts. Like pests. I think both do the same but iodine does help the coral. And freshwater dips may stress them but "clean" them of parasites.
Just my opinion

Lugols contains I2, an antisepticform of iodine. It is toxic at certain levels to certain corlas. It's ok for dips for some corals but some react poorly as is the case here. Too much for too long. I'd just get them back in the tank in the shade for a week or two to see if they recover the zooxanthelae they seem to have expelled. BTW, a 6 to 7 minute dip with standard 3% hydrogen peroxide at 1 part to 3 parts tank water works well for zoanthidae.
