I just caught a crab that is the size of a casino chip. I think its a Gorilla, Iv'e had them from my rock in the past. I have never seen him until tonight, he was just walking out in the open with the lights on. I v'e had my tank going since June, so hes been unseen for quite some time. Anyway, he is hairy but from a picture of an emerald I saw, he kind of looks like he could be an emerald. i'll try and post a pic later. What are the main differances between emerald and gorilla graps appearance wise. i know gorillas look thorny, this one is so big i would hate to toss him if he is an emerald.

Well emeralds are safe until they get to a certain size than they become more aggresive and they have been known to go after fish and other inverts.
First a photo and an id, then you can decide what to do with him. The rule of thumb on the pincers is a good one to go by though. Unless you are like me... and just say no to all types of crabs no matter what others say
I look at my snails as a renewable resource via spawning, not by replacement.
