Help FedEx messed up

I have 30 SPS frags sitting in Memphis and Fedex dosn't know how soon they can get them delivered. The frgs were shipped at 5pm from Fishnreef in Wash DC and were suppost to be here in NJ at 10:30 am. Do to a delay on FXs end the contents is suffering the consequeces. I know the package is insured and Nick at FnR is aware whats going on but I am concerned for the 30 guys stuck in dark,cold low O2 water. When the box arrives what should I do?
Do I drip acclimate them as I would as if the coral was ontime? Do I put them quickly into a container that has tank water that will be 76 degrees? I know there will be losses but I can't let them die..this sucks so bad. Has anyone had any experience with this. Please help :worried:

depending on when they get there, they could still be fine. Still hasnt been 24 hours yet. I would have a container ready for them with coral Rx or some other dip ready. I would also arrange to pick them up instead of letting them get on a truck somewhere. Follow them closely and just be ready for them. Also, take pics when you open the box so Nick at FnR can see the results and replace any livestock that didnt make it.

I've had corals last more then the 24 hour mark, it's not over yet. I would temp acclimate them as soon as you get them by taking them out of all but 1 bag (if they are multi bagged) and then floating them. If you don't QT you can do what I do, which is just cut little slits in the bags so the water will slowly mingle between the bags and your tank water. It's a lazy mans way to drip acclimate.

shipper should have known better. this is about the worst possible time to ship fed ex express. Especially on a thursday. Also more than likely fed ex will not cover any losses for the livestock. Sorry to say. I have had fed ex tell me "sorry plane was full. Nothing we can do"

I wouldn't worry tooooooo much yet though. If they somehow get them to you today and are alive, let them warm up inside for an hour or so before you float them. Just do everything slowly and they should be ok. I would expect a few losses at least though. If they are stuck all weekend I would be much less optimistic.

would contact the web which you got those frags on and explain what has happened and they may get you a decent refund?

Fedex will open a claim and Nick at Fishnreef if aware and cool with replacement. Sorry but its Fedexs job to move freight. There is no snow storm on the East coast so why it took over 12 hrs to move a piority package from Wash dc to Memphis is something they can't blame on the weather or being overly busy their charging alot to move cargo. Im not concerned with Fedex Illl fight it out with them if I have too. My concern is what to do with the frags to save as many as possible. Everyones experiences and ideas are much appriciated

Thats sucks sorry to say, I would agree bad time to ship especially so close to a holiday. It is usually up to the shipper to contact FedEx and to try and file a claim, so I would definietly contact the seller and see what they could do, its not like the frags came to you died in your system, and will be easy to see by the tracking number.

I did have this happened to me a long time ago, I had a really expensive shipment of SPS get held up. While they shipping companies usually dont help much other than to say its delayed and it will be there soon, I was able to do one thing that helped and I didnt lose any corals.

I asked them if I could pick it up at the airport terminal. They actually stopped the package there and held it there so I was able to pick it up at like 9pm. I frags were in transit for about 36 hours and nothing died. You might want to ask them if the box can be kept inside as well. This might give some extra survival time by keeping the box out of the cold.

Just talked to Fedex and there is nothing I can do. Agent says they are over loaded with volume. She sent a note to Memphis to keep box warm but the reality is that the box is in a container and will most likely be flown to Newark and sent to local distrabution center in the middle of the night and put on a truck for delivery before 10 am with special priority. She said going to the airport or DS would be a gamble because most likeli there won't be anyone there in the front office, everyone willl be sorting packages for tommorrows big day. Only medical emergeny items are given super special priority. Im such a dumb *** thinking priority overnight had some type of garentee. I was more concerned about timing good warmer weather to send coral then worried if the packge was going to be delayed with overnight shipping. :headwallblue: My poor guys:headwalls:

There's two things I've learned over the years..........

Don't order livestock 2 week or less before the Christmas holidays & at least a week or two after.

I also never order livestock if the weather in going to be below freezing.

Do those two things & you'll save yourself a lot of headaches.

I think the corals will be fine even over 2 days as long a they don't freeze. I've gotten fish that were fine that were in bags over 48 hrs.

I hate Fedex lol. Have had so many issues with them. The last time i had them deliver corals i was sitting inside and they just left it outside, didn't knock or anything. degrees outside.... ***? I also had a ship it with request for signature and they just left it. Now a day i try to have them leave it at the facility and go pick it up myself.

Aside from my rant, if its under 24hrs im sure they will be ok depending on how much water they were shipped in / temp. Some guys pack them in a dime sized bag so its harder on the corals. Just take your time acclimating them!

I had the same thing happen with Fed-ex. I ordered Liveaquaria DD fish for a Sat. delivery. They were supposed to be delivered before 10 am---Fed-ex fail. Then they pulled up at almost 1pm and put the box on my front porch, no door bell ring or knocking. I just happened to be looking out every ten minutes and saw the truck pulling away, opened the door and there was my delivery just sitting there. I have also had Fed-ex send 2 Blueline Angels, sent from a wholesaler in LA, to somewhere in Texas instead of to me in PA. They were never able to find the fish. So they basically disappeared somewhere in TX.....I hate Fed-ex.

also if you can kept the frags in a holding tank/qt for atleast 24hrs to destess before to treat would be a good idea.

Thanks for all the replies guys. Here is an update. The box was delivered on Saturday at 1pm est. That made it 26.5 hrs passed the latest they were suppose to get the box here. The water was 47 degrees and the ph was 7.2. The Xenia I added to the order was desolved and 14 frags were tissueless. The remaining 13 frags were in some state of stress and RTN. I did my best to bring them up to temp slowly and finally what original water that wasn't too smelly I used to emerse them and slowly drip acclimated them for 4 hrs. They ended up in QT where so far 3 bird nest look like they may survive. I took pictures and sent them to Nick at FishnReef and he will open a claim with Fedex. We'll take it one step at a time. If the claim is accepted Ill see how the winters temperters are before even thinking about asking for a replacement. I hope someone learns from my mistake

man, I wouldn't beat yourself up. You didn't do anything wrong. This stuff just happens from time to time, it's the exception not the rule.

The only real lesson here is

Don't ship live coral the week before x-mas. Ever.

It's not about the possibility of a snow storm, it's about shipping on THE #1 BUSIEST shipping day of the year! Dec 23 is absolutely the worst day of the year, for shipping anything.
