help for seaclone users...

i am sure that there are pleny of seaclone/seaclown users out there.....i admit i have one....i got it dirt cheap when i was first starting out.....sure i would love to have a great skimmer, but sometimes funds prohibit that....

anyways i have done a couple of mods which really have helped my seaclone work a little bit better....there have been threads and information on this in the past, but i am sure there are new users that would like some info....

first i replaced the air valve on the airline....i got one from home depot....while this hasn't help a great deal it has kept the air/water mixture constant...

the next thing that i have done was i obtained a blue bioball....it is approximately 1.5 wide maybe....i cut it in half with a razorblade, sanded that end down and then cut the other end so that all of the pins that stick up were about the same height as the maxijet propeller...i think i had to cut an outside ring off to make it fit around the impeller in the pump....let me tell you this makes a huge difference!!!! it took some sanding and playing around to get everything to work, but the skimmate is now very dark and it is skimming much more.....i highly recommend this mod to anyone that has a seaclone!!!! i don't have any pics, but i am sure that i can offer some help if anyone needs it....i could probably even make one for you for a few bucks.

I had a seaclone for around a year and a half - I did a similar mod and had a Rio 1700 pump with a mesh on the propeller, it really did do good. I recently got a Remora pro and it is a great skimmer. I plan to replace my return pump in the near future and then actually run both. I read a lot of threats here recently about running two skimmers and it sounds logical.

I have a Seaclone 100 that was given to me with my tank. It's brand new and I will be installing it this week. If you are willing to make the bioball mod for me, I'll gladly send you a few bucks! Could you take a picture of it for me? It'd help a lot! Thanks!

You got to figure the construction of most skimmers is basic. Tall tube, pump, bubbles, and a collection cup. The seaclone IMO although cheap works well enough for small syatems. Its gotten a bad rap, but It still does the job. I like your bio-ball idea for the mesh mod. How much smaller in diameter is the bio-ball comapered to the pump housing, and what keeps the ball centered so it wont dislodge itself and get stuck on the intake housing?

I am with Cali. I have one with a Maxijet 1200 running it and I get a small amount of black stuff with it. I would love to see a photo or send you a few bucks in order to make it work better. I have forgone the airvalve and just run the thing wide open for maximum bubbles.....Craig.

kokaneejr,

you can't run the thing wide open....that won't work.....i think the best mix is closed enough that the bubble at the top disappears from the tube.....closed a bit more with the mod. again i will post some pics tonight if i get a chance

sure i can send you one......i will say that it does not make the seaclone a great skimmer by any means.....as the old saying goes......you can't polish a turd.

but i do think it helps.....and if you already have a seaclone it doesn't cost much to try.

i just did mod took mabey 1/2 hr it does help out pretty goood a nother mod u can do is drill a small hole in top of your skimmer lid the size of a air hose put a lees or coralife wooden block on end of air hose and get a small air pump that will make smaller bubbels and make your skimmer better i did bio ball mod im going to add the air line and see what i get i know air line buy its self works great

Buddy and Lawnmower I would be greatful for a photo of the mod. Otherwise I can't "picture it".

I don't have any bioballs so i would pay you to make a mod for me.

P.M. me with what you need and for shipping.

Thanks...Craig.

do you have any idea how to upload a photo...i now have a photobucket account but don't know how to get an image into the post.

Lawnmower & buddy - Have you tried any other mods, like cutting the riser tube down? or the middle tube in the collection cup?

My seaclone produces zero skimmate. It used to produce some, but now, the only way I can get it to do anything is when I scrub the hair algae off of my rocks. Otherwise, it takes about 3-4 weeks for the cup to get full and it is really only a light green water, I think just from evaporation from the water in the skimmer.
