Hey Buddy381...

I hope you don't think I hijacked your thread...didn't intend to. I just got excited that I found my first thread that I could actively participate in! lol. Please forgive...

no worries!!! I am glad that you found that information....i know there are new users everyday and there are a ton of people with Seaclones because they don't read enough before they have one.....personally i got mine in a lot of stuff on ebay.....i got a 29 gallon tank and stand (was going to use the tank as a sump but it ended up being too tall)....a like new RODI unit....nothing special....25-50 gallons per day maybe(guy said he just got it and only tried it out to see how it works), about 10-15 pounds of live rock (water it was in was cold so rock was probably dead but it has been long enough that it is live now...the seaclone skimmer......test kits and basically anything the guy had to take care of a fish tank....all for 150 bucks.....i really only wanted the RODI so everything else was a bonus.....now i have the skimmer so i thought i would try to make it work better....i am sure that i will get a better one eventually, but i have this one so why not try to use it.....

i have done the following.....

replaced the air valve
added the bioball mod
oh yeah, and i ripped the foam thing off of the end.....i was also having microbubble problems in the tank so i cut a slit in the foam and stuck it on the return.....no more bubbles..(but i guess i have to watch it to make sure it doesn't get dirty and add nitrates....

hopefully we will all get by with our seaclones because we all know how expensive this hobby is.......

i thought about doing the airline thing, but where do you guys put the airline....into the middle tube with the "tornado" or along the side or what?

On the examples I saw, they put the airstone right above the middle riser tube right above the tornado.

Mine was a case of not reading before I started and got it off of Dr F&S. It was the price and the 3 positive reviews (which are such a great reflection of actual user opions, lol) that got me to get one. My luck has always been this way, of course I would end up buying the absolute worst skimmer possible out of hundreds of choices, lol. I am going to be upgrading to a 75 gallon soon and will be getting an MSX 160 when I do.

that mod did not do any thing for me the air line in the side so what i did was leave it in the side and put the plastic venturi back on and add that air line now i have 2 air lines going to skimmer will see what happends i think best way i found i to skim was to drill 4 holes in the front case and do the bio ball mod im getting crazzy skim with that

Good to know, thanks. Just out of curiousity, did you place the 4 holes evenly around the housing or all on the front or something else?

2 on top 2 on bottom side buy side to make them even yes now that mod did help a lot the air line mod i hadno luck with im going to go look and see what it did im pretty shure that ones a wast let it run all night and i got no skim

Lawnmower-

I just wanted to clarify the hole placement. I have added the diagram below to try to get a better idea. I apologize for its ugliness, lol, I did it in a hurry at work today. Please let me know if the holes you drilled are the red ones or green ones. Let me know if you cannot figure out my drawing.

Ok. I will try this mod I think since you have had such good luck with it. Look at that, woohoo! page 3, lol. Maybe I should take some pics when I get the bioball and post them on here showing the mod and the drilling of the holes...

Will someone post a pic of this bio ball mod?

I have used the Oring mod, and the air adjuster mod with great results. I would like to try the bio ball mod next. Here i smy current skimmate.

Wow that is some great skimmate! I have never seen that from my Seaclone. Mine is like light green water, I think just evap. I never see the foam rise up and over unless I scrub my rocks clean of Hair Algae. Can I ask where you got the o-ring or how you did that?

I am including pics of the BioBall Mod that buddy381 sent me that he took when he did his. (I hope you don't mind buddy!) I will post pics of mine when I get the bioball with my digital camera.

The oring I use which u can see a hint of it in the pic (white material towards the bottom of the cup), literally came from a Tap water filter, it fits perfect and I had it lying around. It is a very thin (1/16") donut type gasket that fits on the bottom of the collection cup. The donut hole part of the gasket is actually almost to small, but it fits perfect.

Is that from the Aquarium Pharmaceuticals Tap Water Filter, the one with the DI resin that changes color? I have one of those lying around as well....Please say yes, please say yes, lol.

If you are unsure, here is a link to the filter:

Yes that is the one. There is a gasket on either end of the filter when you unscrew the end cap. It happens to fit nicely, its a little snug, but I think that helps.

Also, make sure you firmly press the cup down.

Excellent! I am going to try that immediately. I will update what I find.
