i hate losing fish...especially when i have to kill it to get the tank running again...it's okay...i know it happens...but she was one of my favorites...and it's like losing a really good friend...feels the same.:sad2:

thanks, Tom. pulled out the 50 buck bottle of Vanilla Tequila from Cozumel...i'm feeling a lot better now........and got a phone call, a couple of PM's....some pep talks.....life is good.:love2:

still haven't gone to bed...the water was leaking through the ceiling (90g is in my bedroom) and in a hurry to get a bucket under it....i fell down the stairs. And I'm on Coumadin. Luckily...no broken bones. I would like to erase the last 24 hours from my memory, please. Anybody got one of those thingamabobs from Men In Black??????

DAMM! Sorry to hear of this Kat. You are not alone, this had happened to me once too. Freakin water over the top and all over the carpet. I had a large snail stuck in the tube. Of course nothing can change what had just happened, but what I did was purchase a rain gutter cover (plastic) and cut it to shape to fit the overflow. This, I believed solved any future problems (none since). Losing a favorite is sad, hope the mess and damage is not to bad.

thank you...really. been a rough night. i had mesh over the overflow...but somehow, she managed to get through...pulled out the steam cleaner a few minutes ago...so that should help..ceiling in living room can be repainted...but i'm running out of ice bags for the bazillion bruises i got from the fall......i am determined to find some humor in all this...really i am.....like, one of the bruises is starting to look like a chalice...this is good, right?? right??? lmao

Well. . ok, I'm glad you view life in a positive light. When you go to repaint the ceiling, Sherwin Williams makes a good ceiling block paint. Comes in a spray can, and it usually blends in very nicely.

always positive. life is too short....making mental note (this will last about 2 hours...hahahahahhaha) on Sherwin Williams paint. "if you type it...it will come." this is what happens when i don't get any sleep......

Hi Kat,
Sorry to hear about your problems.
I must have just signed off when your email came in.
Hopefully the damage below isnt that bad.
I had a similar problem happen in my fresh tank.
A red tail shark some how went into one of my overflows.
Luckily... I have two overflows on that tank and the other one took over the flow. Lost the fish. It was a real bummer it was part of a nice pair.

I've sometimes thought about putting an overfill shut off on my return pump. Never got around to doing it, but everytime I hear a story like this I think its something I should find time for.

BTW. I'm sure Jedi will be sympathetic... He lost a 90G? in his store last week or so when a seam broke and dumped the entire load into the store. I think that was just after he was sick as a dog for a number fo days. Talk about stress.... He handled it far better than I would have. So I guess it could have been worse.

Hey Kat sorry to hear about the loss maybe you could send some pics of your overflow sump plumbing etc and even though we cant bring the fish back maybe we can keep it from happening again. my tank it set up so the very largest amount of water that can overflow is about 6 gallons and thats a disaster. Maybe we can help you out there

Damn, You put this up right after I got off the computer for bed. Sry to hear about all the crap. Like Jeff said, take some shots of your tank. My overflow has a cage around it to keep fish from getting in there. I hope you can sleep in today!

SO sorry to read about your night Kat. I wish I had known and could have helped in some way. I believe Jeff is on point on this one. Engineer a set-up so the head space of your tank excedes the volume able to be pumped in from the sump. It could be as simple as moving the pump up near the top of water level in your sump. Worst case the pump overheats from running dry. I gotta believe that would be better than a bedroom full of saltwater, a wet ceiling,... falling down a flight of stairs....

Kat...if it's any help I have had this happen several times also AND my hawk fish carpet surfed last night and committed the final act. So I feel your pain!

i also no the feeling ...i was cleaning out my 55 and did a water change and broke out the bottom of my 55 there was sand and water everywhere... lost every one of my fish ...they didn't die because i put them in the sump after the break but i had to get rid of my little guys . "no where to put them" took a few days to clean up the mess and shampoo the carpets ... i wish ya the best ...sorry

Sorry to hear about that Kat.
I had the same thing happen to me (a clog) my third month in.
Sorry to hear about the fish and the damage.. eew

I wasn't on yesterday or I would have called.
Cheer up, things will move on.
'An don't start smoking again.
It's like pouring crude oil into the ocean. NO good for you.
Maybe a shot of captains. Yeah, I could deal with that...
But stay healthy.
