Just as it states. I don't have my Gen. How long can my fish live with out power? IF any one know please answer Qucik

I really don't know but if you can come up with something creative to disturb the surface and get more oxygen into the water it'll certainly buy you some time.

Good luck.

Get two or three battery powered air pumps. If your LFS doesn't have them try a store that sells fishing supplies as they use them for bait buckets and live wells.

Get battery powered bait pumps, on air stones, and if all else fails, get a hand-squeezed bulb.

Just keep stirring the water if necessary. Break the surface and create bubbles......is your power back yet?

I run 3 of these in series, as one fails the next will turn on. I can run 4 tunze power heads for 6 days with out refuge lights on. With lights on it drop to 3 days

You know, we should just start setting up our aquariums in server data centers!

I wonder how many aquariums there are in the data center that hosts reefcentral.com! ;) ;)

I keep an air tank with regulator and air disfusor at 180 lbs of pressure it will put air in my tank for about 48 hours

That's a really good idea.

lol dont we all have one of these so we can get on RC when the power goes out...

Get cordless drill and paint mixer bit (clean one)- works good and make sure your fishes are away from it otherwise you'll have blended fishes.... :eek1:

LOL there are some great answeres and suggestion, As it is Hurricane season here in good ol Florida :(, I was thinking of how Id keep my tank going if we loose power and my 1st thought was using my UPC battery backup from my computer like the one guy mentioned!!!!! I dont know though what id do without this kind of info from RC, I need to get me one of those satellite thingys!!! :D

These work great, the only problem, is the general ones you get in the lower price range (less than say $150) are only designed to keep your computer running for 5 to 30 minutes or so -- just long enough to let you save and shut it down gracefully.

You'll need a fairly large UPS or multiple ones in series like was mentioned to keep your fish tank running through a whole hurricane power outage.

Make sure you test just how long the UPS will run with your aquarium stuff. And of course, don't run all your equiment off the UPS -- only just the bare minimum you'd need to keep things alive through the outage.

And it's always a good idea to have some extra battery powered air pumps on hand. They've saved me a few times when the power outage was longer than the UPS could stay up. There's no way to recharge a UPS until the power comes back of course, but you can always get more D cell batteries...

One time last season, I was seriously considering getting a generator with automatic switch over just for my 30gal tank.... We're obsessed! ;)
