Hi,
2 hours ago my anemone was looking fantastic and was fully expanded. I just went back to me tank and this is what he looks like now.

Here's a link to a higher res picture:

What can I do? My wife is frantically taking ammonia and nitrite levels, however a few days ago they were zero. Nitrates 2 hours ago were about 20 . . .

Any help would be very much appreciated.

I've only had him 4 days. However he came with a 30g we bought and he had been in there for 3 years.

Only fish is a clown. Some snails and hermits - nothing else.

This is a pic of him from 2 days ago:

Its not dying..its just doing what BTAs do best. Deflate then inflate in a couple of hours. They look pretty darn pathetic when they do this. It is either getting rid of waste or just changing its water inside its body to acclimate itself to your tank.

Honestly, right now I wouldn't worry about it. It could just be doing an internal water change -- which is common with new anemones. BTAs, can look awful when they are doing that.

If it doesn't look back to normal by the morning, then I would start to worry.

But, what is your salinity?

It is fine..calm down every thing is ok.

I bet he's not even a 10th of the size. . . possibly some brown clingy like stuff around him as well . ..

trust me..it will look better by tomorrow or in a couple of hours. If it doesn't look better by morning then it is time to be concerned.

I remember freaking out with my first bta( I think everyone does) :p. Read that link I posted it will show you pictures of a normal deflated anemone. They do this quite often when they are new to your aquarium.

Thanks.

I just read the links. I'm still concerned he seems smaller and more shrunken than some of those pics . . .

No problem Darryl,
Your pictures look like a normal deflated anemone to me. I know what a dying or dead one looks like and yours doesn't even come close.

There's something that almost looks like fish line or string coming out of his mouth. Any idea what that is? Should I remove it?

OK,
He's slightly more inflated.

Thanks so much to everyone for such a quick response. . . What a great community . .
