Help ID this (Carpet) Anemone.....

Hi there. I thought this anemone was rather unique looking at the LFS. The tentacles were shorter and 'nubby' as opposed to the finer, slender tentacles usually seen with traditional looking carpet anemones such as haddoni. Also; the oral disc is hardly visible and blends in so to speak. It is approx. 4" in diameter and very sticky. At the LFS; it was attached to a side pane of glass and looked closer to deep blue in colour. Under whiter daylight conditions (out of the LFS aquarium and in the plastic bag) it appears to be more purple and a little bit red/pink. Have a look at some of the pictures provided and let me know what kind of carpet anemone you think it is. Thanks in advance. :dance:

Interesting. The tentacle shape and pattern looks like a Merten's carpet to me. But if the side of the foot and column don't have any markings, then I would agree with Haddoni. Regardless, very nice find.

P.S. - No markings on it's underside. At least no visible ones for now . I acclimated it and dropped it into my aquarium and my clowns took to it right away.

I was uncertain what kind of carpet it was when I saw it and was still confused when I purchased it. It was 'cute', unique and the rich colouration blew me away. My lights turned on in my display not too long ago and the colour now appears to be a deep violet if that makes any sense. I'll borrow a bettter camera and take pics soon.

A good picture of the column is best to use for ID in this case. You can feed it and take the picture or use something to lift the oral plate to take a pictur eof the column. It looks like a Haddoni to me. All three type of carpets have different column look so a 100% ID needthe column.

We are very fortunate in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). We have several LFS that fiercely compete and cater to all levels of marine fish and coral enthusiasts. All within a short driving distance. This anemone was no exception. I picked it up at a local LFS. The origins of this carpet anemone is apparently from Indonesia.
