help identify this tang

I will venture to say that there aren't any responses because the picture is too small. Can you get a larger picture on a close up shot?

Looks like a bristletooth species, but yeah, a larger pic would help

Looks like a juvi Maculiceps tang (Acanthurus maculiceps) to me because of the spots on its face.

would it still be a juvi at 2yrs old? the fish store i bought him from said he was 2yrs old already it was in one of there show tanks

From the pictures I was looking at on google, the adults have more spots on their face instead of just around the eyes area.

Others can chime in if I am wrong. From the mouth, it does look like a bristletooth though.

Looks like a bristletooth to me (Ctenochaetus) based on the mouth structure.

My vote would be Ctenochaetus genus, kind of tough to tell, Ctenochaetus truncatus has spots instead of stripes, hawaiiensis doesn't seem quite right.

the genus looks exactly like it hmmmm

i am inclined to think it is perhaps a brown surgeonfish -Acanthurus nigrofuscus but i may be wrong , this particular Acanthurus looks very similar to Ctenochaetus at first glance
