That is a Sebea Anemone not a BTA. Not as hardy as BTA's but a nice anemone anyway. Post pics when it's fully open.

Looking like it, I was thinking the same... Certainly not a BTA.. has yet to open fully. My clown took to it in about 3 hours.

Thanks Cheryl... you are right. Rather that than a condy. He has attached under a ledge as a BTA would.. has pretty much only opened to what you see in the pic but has only been in the tank for about 20 hours. Should do ok. Params are good and take has been est for over a year. Any advice on the Sebea?

Needs decent lighting, alot of people have them successfully under PC's, but for a Sebae I think T5 or MH are better. If you have no clowns you should attempt to feed it about once a week or every other week. Try silversides, sm. pieces only and just place the food on the anemone, it will eat if it's hungry, if no active feeding remove the food from the tank. Cover power heads and make sure it does not wander to the overflow. The fact that your tank is over a year old is good, and that it has already attached as well. If it begins to wander than something is up.

definitely a bubble tip anemone. while the tenticles certainly look like those of a bleached heteractis crispa or sebae anemone, the base color and texture are very distinctly e. quadricolor.

So now I am doubting myself thanks, only kidding. Try going to Salt Corner.com and compare the pics there. Still have to go with Sebae after looking around. I have alot of BTA's and I have never seen a BTA that looks like that, but hey I could be wrong. Pic of when it is more inflated will help.

Bubble tips can look aALOT,I mean ALOT lik eother species of anemone when they are stresed or have just ben shipped.Im still going to go will bubble!

Yep I am wrong, after going to my reef bible, The Reef Aquarium Volume Two by Julian Sprung and Charles Delbeek. Column is tough and leathery, with prominent adhesive verrucae, per the experts in my opinion anyway. Nice dicussion and as always enjoyed the research. Thanks

Thanks to all..

Thanks to all..

Thanks to all for the input.... as far as behavior, it tends to want to attach to a ledge and keep the foot shaded. I know this is common with a BTA, my LTA and the Condy I had in the past would stay out completely.... Still hoping for a bubble tip. My son who is 10 takes a ton of pride in the tank here are more pics just for fun :)

Very nice tank, is that a Crocea clam or Maxima? And I would have to say that it is indeed a BTA, sorry about the wrong ID. I am curious to see what the anemone looks like in a few days.

It's a Maxima.. My fiancee bought it, so now she is addicted too :) Today she bought a really cool Cats Eye Coral... lovin it!

Nope, that is a T. crocea, not a T. maxima. 100% certain
That anemone is a BTA. It cannot be anything but a E. quadricolor or highly unlikely to be a H. magnifica. There is no way it can be a H. malu or H. crispa.

Thanks Orion...

How do you tell the difference between a Maxima and Crocea? Hoping the BTA opens all the way today, if so I will post new pics.

Thanks.

BTA update

BTA update

BTA? update... Has not opened much more than yesterday. BTA has moved out closer to the rock ledge and extended more... but nothing more in terms of opening.
