I have a cherub angelfish that has begun nipping at sps. I need to get him out. Ive tried feeding into a cup but he hasn't swam into it. At the moment i have a net in the tank so that hopefully they'll get used to it. Any other ideas? i can't catch him at night because i don't have anywhere to put him until the morning. Taking rock and water out is not an option.

please help!

I built a drop door fish trap for about $6. cheap lexan from lowes. Put it in the tank and fed with the door off for a couple of days and then when they got used to eating in it put the door in and cut the line to catch the fish.

Look up a bottle trap on youtube. I had a Flame angel that started nipping after a few years in the tank. I caught mine with it. You just cut a soda bottle in half, cut the bottle opening larger if needed (not too big), place the top piece into the bottom piece (opening pointing in), I taped the two together. It was real simple and can be made if you've got an empty soda bottle. Good luck.

Thanks! What's it made of?
Lowes or Homedepot have pieces of lexan or acrylic that you can buy. I just got some and built a box by super gluing it together, went to the dollar store and got a $1 soap dish for the suction cups so it would stick to the side of the tank. I had to use some magnets to give the door some weight so it would drop. I'll send you a full shot if you want. I tried the plastic bottle thing but it didnt work for me. But its worth a shot.

If the screen does not work you can buy the acrylic boxes that people keep small reptiles or turtles in. They have a handle on the top and come in several sizes. I have had lots of luck catching fish with mine by putting pellets inside. When they are to big I use eggcrate to trap them into one end of the tank then net them out.
Good luck,

I built a small bottle trap and caught a melanurus wrasse last weekend. I took a regular old drink bottle, cut the top off, reversed the top with the cap off, stuck a few hole punches in both pieces and used a twist tie to hold the parts together. It doesn't need to be tight fitting. From there I tied a piece of fishing line to the twist-tie. In the tank it went. The next morning it still wasn't in the trap. I put some food in the trap at the morning feeding, in the fish went and I pulled him out.

Next time, if there is one, it probably won't be so easy..
