Not a must, but I would probably run the 400w bulbs, SFSU. I just like being able to keep SPS on the sandbed if I wish.

James Wright, now youre suggesting tanks that are out of the realm of what I have in plans. A 72x48x24 is 360, almost double one of my other options. Its not realistic to me. Also, my last 2 tanks have been 20" tall, and it wasnt an issue.

Not Leemarr, I dont believe. When I asked for that dimension initially, I was told it had to be AGE, which is out of budget.

I could use Leonardo's and Ed's tanks for inspiration if I go with the shallower tank also. I just have a vision of very open aquascaping, with maybe 5-6 single larger rock islands in the tank. Leaving tons of open space for fish to swim. Id just be fearful that the 17" depth will get old.

Someone mention my name?? :D

You know i was initially worried about shallow tank as well but ever since my tank arrived, I'm so inlove and I will never go back to a taller tank... :p

24" deep if you want to have the tank up and running for awhile. Shallow tanks are a cool idea, but I like tall staghorns :p

With all the debating, and with me ruling out the taller tank......

I think Im going 225g LOL. I was doing some pricing around, and found a 225g 72x30x24 actually be cheaper with 3 sided starphire, euro bracing, rather than the 20" tall 1 sided starphire.

Mark, I didnt think about the staghorns. Ive never had any, so thats probably why. Since you voted 24" because of stags, does that mean you are donating some? lol

Unless the tank gets sold, I think this is the route Im going.

I Think to compensate for the tank not being shallow, like I had intended, I am going to build (or have it built) my own stand. Its going to be lower, maybe 30" tall. Im still debating this. That way it ends up being taller, but where you can still look down a little on it, also making it easier to view from sitting on the couch. I was inspired by this as I was staring at my current tank, while my fiance had LIFETIME MOVIE NETWORK on, lol. I stare at my tank more than the TV, so I might as well make it easily viewed, right? lol
