Help me design the perfect 96"x48"x24"!!!

you'll need 2 waveboxes (wavebox with extension) for a tank that big.

I am with moonpod, and just FYI, I have been told that on my 96x48x30 that a wavebox with extension might not work...

Not to be too technical but are you taking into account the blade thickness and any routering done to acrylic that will be your sides..after losing an 1/8" from the cut and any routering you wont be at 24" anymore....

Nope, I'm not getting that technical with the measurements.
Also, I just found out from an acrylic tank maker that he believes that 1.5" acrylic can be used without a Euro brace and have very minimal deflection. According to his calculation, 1.25" would work, but the deflection would be 'notable', so he recommended upgrading to 1.5".
But, I just spoke with a local fish store owner who just happened to obtain an 8'x4'x2' tank from a former customer and I might just be getting the deal of a lifetime on this used tank. I don't know the exact details as far as overflow location and such, but for $600 I could afford to make some changes and maybe live with a small Eurobrace ;)

600.00... Dang, you could get it and use it as a sump and ref for your perfect 96"x48!!! LOL...

I have a nice excel spreadsheet put out by CYRO makers of ACRYLITE GP.
It tells you thicknesses that you will need. I ran some number for you.

96ââ"šÂ¬Ã‚ * 24ââ"šÂ¬Ã‚ without a top is listed at 1.25ââ"šÂ¬Ã‚ or larger
96ââ"šÂ¬Ã‚ * 24ââ"šÂ¬Ã‚ with top is listed at .944ââ"šÂ¬Ã‚ or larger
96ââ"šÂ¬Ã‚ * 30ââ"šÂ¬Ã‚ with a top is listed at 1.25ââ"šÂ¬Ã‚ or larger
96ââ"šÂ¬Ã‚ * 30ââ"šÂ¬Ã‚ without top is listed at 2ââ"šÂ¬Ã‚ or larger

I would have to agree with you on the use of materials with the 24ââ"šÂ¬Ã‚ height on a 4ââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢* 8ââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢ sheet as well as being able to reach the bottom, how ever I do think they make a 60ââ"šÂ¬Ã‚ * 96ââ"šÂ¬Ã‚ sheet size.

With the best use of materials and cost I think your best tank size would be
120ââ"šÂ¬Ã‚ * 60ââ"šÂ¬Ã‚ * 24ââ"šÂ¬Ã‚ I believe the 120ââ"šÂ¬Ã‚ * 60ââ"šÂ¬Ã‚ Is the largest standard size sheet.
According to the spreadsheet 1ââ"šÂ¬Ã‚ thick would be ok if you used a top.

I think you might have some water problems with the wavebox with no top.

Also under the Important Considerations section it says ââ"šÂ¬Ã…"œIf the sides are held together at the top in a frame, it can be considered a closed tankââ"šÂ¬Ã‚

Wow Mr. Biggs! Thank you very much for that detailed information. That is exactly what I needed. I did hear that 1.25 to 1.5" material would work without a top brace from Mike at Precision Clarity.
Hmm- I'll have to look into the 10 x 60 x 24 size. But, I'm pretty sure that the material in that size sheet would probably be exponentially higher than the standard 4x8.
Thanks again for that great input.

Well, I'm actually looking into a 6x6x30", roughly 674 gallon, cubish tank, to replace my current 4x4x2. I was hoping to make it 4 side viewing, but finding the right spot for that is not working out, so up against the wall it will most likely go.
I'll be going with 3/4" material with a high gauge angle steel support brace around the top perimeter.
I should have the price quote for this Monday or Tuesday.
