Hello Guys,

Trying to decide on new tank size. Should I go 22" tall or 24". At 22 tall that is around 137 gallons at 24 its at 150 gallons.

150. Bigger is better. Which do you like the look of?

And dude what is that pic of the guy with all the teeth? Bugs me out.

if you are going custom...make sure u have 2 overflows....thats the only problem with the 110H is that it only comes with one! either size though are really good sizes

I'm thinking i should go 150 :) This will be a 70/30 ( Sps/LPS-Softys) tank so I hoping to get the Iwsaski 15k Par busters for the tanks, as well as 4 T-5 HO's for it.

I had exotic quote me for 2holes, and i would like to stick to one overflow to take up less space as well since i have only a OR 3500 ( 900 GPH) for the tank . The rest of the water circulation in the tank will be from a pair of Tunze Streams, and a pair of MJ 900's i will maxi mod.

A 1" tube will handle 700 gph right ? What's a 1 1/2 tube handle ?

go with the 1 1/2 hole in case you want to change late easier to do now. I like 30" high but 24" is fine as well.

nyvp,

do you know what a 1 1/2 can handle ? Also, do you recommend having a 3/4 for the return ? The pump outlet is 3/4 th , but i've head you can get slightly more gph if you go with larger diameter return tubbing on pumps.

NO BRAINER. Go with (2) 1.5" drains. One will be the "primary" one choked down with a ball valve before entering the sump, the second drain will be your "emergengy" drain that will only drain when the primary drain clogs since the ball valve may increase the chances of something getting stuck.

The emergency drain's standpipe needs to be higher than that of the primary's by about two inches.

When the primary drain clogs, the emergengy drain handles the full flow of the clogged primary drain but since the emergency drain doesnt have a valve on it, it will make plenty enough noise to alert you to check your clogged primary drain.

Use a teflon seated ball valve. Easier to turn than HD valves or you can use a gate valve although more expensive and take much more room.

For the return, go up and over the lip of the tank. For 900gph i would use 3/4" pvc or 5/8th ID Vynil tubing. That water wont travel too far if you use 1" pvc.

Hope this helps!

alway plan for the future you never know.I would do 3 holes 2 for the overflow and one for the return at 1 1/2. as I said you can always go smaller but not bigger.

Before you order it, check (sorry, I don't usually recommend them...) Big Al's. They have a 150 extra tall that fits your dimensions. Very nice tank, it's on my wish list.

I would definately get the 48Lx30Wx24T. I checked Big Als, but didn't see 30"W on their list for 150G...only the 24"W and 30"T that betamed mentioned above. Maybe I overlooked it, hope I did cause I am planning to get a new tank in the near future and if I can't find a 30"W, I will just get the 48Lx24Wx24T 120G. Let us know if you can find it. Good luck!

30" wides are not standard sizes that i know of , so you have a custom tank built( which i am)

24" tall it is :).... man soooo excited ...so so excited !

Now I just have to sell the stand i build for the 120.... anyone looking to buy a stand... lol

oh man...you twisted my arm on that one... i emailed Karen to get an idea how much it would be to go 30" tall ....lol

well guys , i've settled on a final dimension.... 48x32x24

Hopefully Karen won't get too ticked off as I've had her price me 3 differenct sizes already.... lol

I have Eric working on the stand price too so hopefully i can get this thing started next week

I'm looking into having a custom tank made that size (48x32x24).
You guys are on the west coast, Have you heard of "Exotic Aquarium - Miami"? I've heard they build some nice tanks.

The tank is not on their list, it's in their showroom

Black silicone, right in their main aisle down the center.

Nice

very nice u will love the depth almost 3 feet deep.
IMHO th eperfect sps tank should be no less than 36 deep so it gives u the sens of real depth.

BTW the tanks at Big ALs are 30 deep and they are sweet.
