Over the years I've seen many people chase their tails trying to figure out why corals are dieing as well as inverts only to fine out that somewhere along the line they slipped a brass fitting into the plumbing
Honestly the best advice I ever got about a year ago is the "stop keeping your parameters higher then NSW, there is always a blog on how keeping this higher has this effect or doing this makes your mushroom coral turn into strawberry shortcake.... Ya know? We are all guilty of the banwagon ideology. Have you looked under your tanks recently? When I look under mine and see the ridiculous number of things that keep my aquarium and corals beautiful I'm always in aw that the ocean still does it much better. I'm not saying you where doing this but my point is if you just stick to NSW parameters you will always be in the right. I got down to mother natures level and my reef has exploded (in a good way) my mushroom didn't turn into a strawberry shortcake but my 300 is on its way to tank of the month........or atleast that's on my bucket list.
update:
Another dead SPS! ALK steady at 8.1 for the past month. Ca holding at 400. MG at 1300, NO3 at 2. PH at 8.1. Carbon dosing down to 4ml/day. I even stopped using a filter sock thinking that some bleach or detergent residue from the washing machine was making it through the rinsing. Stopped doing daily WC's as recommended and am doing bimonthly 20%. Same story as always polyp withdraws and coral bleaches into oblivion. Guess softies are the way to go for me.
Thanks for everyone's help but I'm throwing in the towel :-(
