I am planning to build a sps dominated reef tank. I'm not sure if this tank is considered a nano tank or not. I'm planning to make this tank a fiji based tank with fish live rock corals and inverts from the fiji area. I have been trying this hobby for about 2.5 years and am ready to try to build and have a sps dominated coral reef sytem.
Some stats to bring you into my situation.
the tank is 47.5 long 10 inches tall and 9.5 inches
I have a 4x 54 watt t5ho that will have ati bulbs
sump 55 gallon with ato inside about ten gallons so 45 gallon capacity sump
flow will be mp10 as well as 700- overflow return
I plan to use a gfo and carbon reactor
I am going to do the tank bare bottom.
Thru my expeiernce I have learned that the use of rodi water is very important and will be purchasing my own personal unit. I have also learned the importance of biological filtration and this tank will have 2-2.5 lb of live rock per gallon about 70 lbs.
I have bought ph pro buffer coraline boosters and magnesium and have test for all these well except mg which i will get.
I was wondering about dosing and what I should use do i need a doser and which one should i get. I also want to know about skimmers is a big expensive skimmer a must. i have a Instant ocean protein skimmer for up to 100 gallon would this be enough with 25 % water changes?
I am going to have 2x54 watt t5ho below over my sump for light. I plan to put a removable 5.5 gallon DSP with miracle mud putting about 2 inches above 4 inches of miracle mud on one side and just sand up to 6 inches on one side with cheato and red bush planted in the sand side.
I will put my tank thread in this forum and hopefully i will continue to get answers as my build goes on.
