Help! Something is damaging my monti cap. Havent added anything in quite sometime and yet the edge of one side of my monti cap is disappearing slowly. Could it be nudis? I read that they only eat the skin of the monti cap yet mine is missing not only the skin but also the skeleton of the monti. I don't see any nudis crawling on the monti cap also. Hope someone can give me some advice.

It is probably nudis I had them they did not eat the skeleton though. the edges lost tissue and i saw them crawling around they are white and frilly looking. They may be under the monti that is where they lay eggs.

@Mike_cmu04 - that is actually what is confusing me. Supposedly monti eating nudis only feed on the flesh/skin of the monti. But the damage on my monti looks like something took a bite of it. Ive had this monti for about 9 months already and this is the first time ive seen this type of damage.

@ingtar_shinowa - Will take pics tonight.

Here is a before and after pic for comparison.

I fragged the damage but as you can see it is only on one side of the monti cap. I inspected the damaged part last night and no nudibranches there. Hope somebody can help!

I just have 6 fishes in my tank.

1 PT
2 Banggai
2 True Percs
1 Royal gramma

I also have several snails (astrea and nassarius). And so far they go no where near the monti cap.

i meant could someONE have damaged the cap and cleaned up after?

I doubt it. No one actually touches my tank except for me. I pretty much do everything myself.

Weird. Looks smashed as apposed to eaten. Anything fall off the rocks.

Actually, I just fragged the piece that was about to fall off last night. But before that it was like there was something was slowly chipping away the monti cap including its skeleton to cut off the hanging piece. Theres also nothing over the monti cap so its impossible that something fell on it.

Up! Anyone???

Actually no more additional damage to the orginal damaged portion. Im still worried though as there might be something there that i just don't see. Inspected again last night and still couldn't see anything. Inspected during lights out and just used a flashlight but still there was nothing. Im really baffled!

Im 100% sure nothing fell on it.

Let me just put it this way, what are the predators of monti caps that also consume the skeleton? Crabs perhaps?
