Help! My acros are dying..

shoot for <.03. .1 is high.

Okay, I have basicly 0 alge growth so I didn't think that was a problem. The LFS is having a "Any size maxi jet for $25 sale" So I think I will go get a couple of their biggest. That will be a good start I think.

How old is your tank????? I'm still thinking unstable params, fluctuations somewhere and getting the flow up should help.

Around 6-7 months. A little young. The Alk on my tank goes from a high PPM to Low in about 1-2 days. This seems a little extreme to me. Sorry about not having the numbers yet. I have been at school/work all day. Thanks

You ordinary off the mill maxi-jets are no good. What most people here mean by them having the modded maxi jet is that they are internaly modified to push 1200gph.

how are you supplementing alk now?

topping off with limewater would be a good start.

I am using baking soda mixed with something. ;) A long time reefer gave it to me. One large spoonful mixed into a plastic cup with RO water a pin whole in the bottom and it drips out slowly over about an hour.

My alk is 9.0 (3.20) ( I added last night before I read your remark not to add anything)

I am going to go pick up a couple of power heads today as a temporary fix to my flow problem.

you should measure your alk every day for a week at the same time of day, that way you can get an idea of the tanks;' uptake of alk, and dose accordingly.

3.2 is a good level, what is your calcium at now?

as long as its between 350-450 you will be fine, just keeping adding a balanced ca/alk supply.

once again i will ask how you are topping off evap. water?

Up until about a week ago I was using an RO "hose" straight into the sump. Now I use a medical dosing pump that keeps it topped off. Calcium 390. I added some after I tested.

I agree that you NEED more flow than what you currently have. Also it would not be a bad idea to look at the damaged colonies more closely under a magnifying glass. You COULD have bugs or AEFW or....

everytime ive had an acro rtn on me it had its polyps fully out, even on the tissue swinging around in the flow.

I dont have much experience with RTN, but of what I did have, PE before and after treatment was dramatically different.

I removed all the acros from my tank and put them in a more established tank. I came out this morning and they had all quickly gone downhill. I think I will hold off on getting SPS for awhile.

You need to read up on this board and learn some tricks so when your ready for more, youll be ready. Unless your going to mod the maxis, then I would go with tunzes or seios. 12-1600 gph or more. 2 would be a good start. Also, you didnt check to see if they had any bugs like DNGUYEN suggested before you moved them to a more established tank. Was it your tank? If they have red bugs or acgro eating flat worms, then your friend will have them now. You also moved an already stressed coral to another tank which in return stressed it even more by moving it. Dont discard them without looking for preditors. Keep us posted if you continue with that make it.
