mr. clown man

i have a male b/w clown that is not eating and is acting slow and breathing faster, i have tried to feed it garlic, formula 1 flakes, and slow sinking pellets...... i am worried does water quality have to do with this?, if so my ph was at 7.8 but i just added some reef buffer so it should be bak to normal by tonight......., idk please help

7.8 is at the low end of acceptable. I doubt this is the cause of your problem. I would lay off the pH buffer as the rise is usually short term and all it will do is raise your alkalinity to dangerous levels.

As far as the clown itself, is it in your reef or your fowlr ?

Well, this is a tough call. He obviously doesn't like something about your water. Some fish don't eat for a couple of weeks when introduced to a new tank. But the fact that he's breathing heavily is a concern.

Could be water quality, could be flukes, hard to tell.

To be honest with you, I've kept healthy marine fish for over 7 years, but I can't keep a clownfish alive to save my life.

I just quit trying. I'm sure someone will be along in awhile to help you further.

Good luck. :)

do they do this when they are spawning? my male clown has like somthing hanging out his anus, lol im not sure wat it is and it looks like hes gettin down with the female clown im soo confused, are the males supposed to have the thing come outa them in order to reproduce...maybe this is why he wasnt energetic and willing to eat...idk

Try some live brine shrimp ... like candy to most fish especially clowns. If the clown starts to eat LBS then you can start to slowly introduce it to some frozen mysis shrimp.

Something hanging out your anus is usually crap ... and has nothing to do with "getting down" with the female. A significant portion of wild caught clowns have internal parasites and "stringy poop" is often the first external sign of that problem.

haha no i already found the problem, i overfed them so the lil dude was not hungry now hes swimmin around and eatin good

thanks for the help though
