Help needed please Maroons and carpets? can maroons be hurt?

The tentacles seemed a bit long for a Haddoni, but the column is the tell here I guess. If he's not moving around a lot, and he's in the sand, that's another good sign that he's a Haddoni and happy.

When you feed it (silversides, etc) it should grab the fish and pull it into its mouth pretty quickly. If it doesn't, or its not sticky, that's another bad sign.

It will still outgrow the 29, what you should do is take it back and get a good size RBTA or just a regular BTA. Good luck and dont leave the hobby, its a great one to be in, and a heads up for the future take what your lfs says with a grain of salt and get most of your information on this board, because this board is the best on the net, once again good luck and go ahead and get a BTA.

I think I will try and keep it for now I know it will outgrow it really fast but I am thinking of going bigger in months later. I am in a house now and can expand and thought about getting a huge tank maybe like 150 of 200 gallon. then the carpet can have a bigger place along with the maroons. The female maroon is in love with the carpet she is all over it now. the male still staying away but he will come around.

thanks for all the help folks

Well instead of any type of good news or encouragement guess I feel like I just got knocked over the head. I understand your concern and I did alot of reading and study on carpets and what might work in my tank. yes its in a 29 bio cube. and if its endanger I will certainly return it so it can have a correct home. I been coming on this site for a long while now, but I dont know if I ask anymore questions
55semireef u might have had good intentions but u could find alittle kinder way to talk to somone. I doing my best and trying to learn all I can from forums and what my LPS says. I was told this was a sadleback carpet anemone. once home I looked it up and found pics of what seemed to be what I had. guess I was wrong and its a Gigantea. right now I honest feel like givin up the whole hobby. I met some nice people online but to talk the way u did not fair.

I am sorry you feel this way but a discussion board is not meant for warm fuzzy posts and false words of "encouragement." I am sorry about being wrong on the identification of the anemone...the pictures of your Haddonis awfully looked like one. However, I was simply giving you the facts and what you needed to do to help your situation. When I first joined this thread, I had the total wrong mindset and as a result this forum had problems with my posts and attitude. You however, have no reason to give up the hobby. If your really enjoyed a this hobby, one post should not change your mind. Part of being new to such a hobby is learning and this is exaxtly what this forum is about. Sharing the knowledge and helping the RC community.

But still, a Haddons anemone may be a much easier anemone to care for than say a Gigantea or H. Maginifica, but a 29 gallon still cannot properly house such an aggressive specimen as a Haddons. It will be fine in your setup for a small amount of time but eventually, it will outgrow your tank. And based off the pictures you provided, the gaping mouth already lets me know that it is not in the best health to begin with. If I were you I would step up to the plate and return the carpet and go with a BTA that would be MUCH better to care for and as a natural host for your maroons as well.

I wouldn't say a gaping mouth is a sign of bad health on a Anemone that was just bought. Mine had a gaping mouth for days after I bought it. Its a sign of stress and/or illness. I'd say perfectly normal for a few days to a week. Now if it goes a long time and won't eat and is gaping I'd worry.

as of now its mouth is tight and lookin really great as of tonight. I will take new pics in the morning somtime. thanks again

ok I am going to you guys for the info. if I wanted a much larger tank to have a reef tank that would mainly have carpet and clowns and some other fish that I like and I like to get somthing bewteen 100 and 250 gallons. where should I shop? and what kind of setup should I be lookin for that will keep anemones and clowns happy with other corrals and fish as well. I am in no mean rich. I am work on a budget being disablied but with tax time comin soon I thouhgt at least I could start getting what I need alittle at a time. if not a whole setup for a good price. tell me were best to shop and what products to get and stay away from.
thanks!

That's a huge question... Honestly if I had to do it over I would buy someone's complete setup. It would save thousands. Really just read read read here. Read everything in the equipment forum ect. You'll soon know what's good and what to stay away from. There is lots of good equipment out there but there is some bad too. Just ask before you buy a specific piece.

looks good. ide get 120-150gal setup. with DIY refugium and MH lighting. Pretty much what i have now but 55gal tank.

It looks like the mouth is still gaping Tommie. Is it? If that maroon is harassing it too much you may need to separate them until the Anemone settles in. Is it eating?

its tight most times.... it just now ate a whole silverside and it ate it fast too.... so it seems to be doing really well! update pics soon

doing well as u can see

doing well as u can see

Well it ate again this afternoon and I mean it eats fast. The female is loving it still but male still not getting to close yet. I hope he joins her soon. he is spending alot of time in the back of the tank behind rock work. I am just hoping she doesnt lay were I cant see it. I know male most times tends to eggs after they are laid. but here are some pics of the carpet and the clowns

I'm no expert on clowns, but the size disparity between my male and female GSMs is much greater, and the female is so dark she's almost black. How old are yours? I wonder if the "female" is fully female yet?

Mine are both in the BTAs, but since after various splits I now have five (yikes!) they tend to move around and "see other anemones." Sometimes they're together, but often times not.

well the female true color is hard to get on flim and isnt much deeper than the males......they hosted a bta for a while in a smaller tank.... but since the move to the 29 they not spent as much time with each other. hope it will get better as time goes by
thanks

I try get better pics of her and him
