can you post a picture of this?
Pics would help. Are you sure it's a carnation coral and not a chili coral? I ask because chili corals are known for thier poor survivability rate in home aquaria.

One of my LFS had a specimen he called "Red Carnation Coral". It was Scleronephthya sp. Google Scleronephthya and see if any of the pics match your coral.
Anyway, anytime I think there is a problem with my tank, I always check all my parameters. What are yours? Then, if all else fails and I can't figure it out, I do a 20% WC. Just a thought.

It should be pretty resilient (no matter what other RC people will say).
It is non photosynthetic, correct?
So then, you would have been prepared to feed it?
How is the feeding going, did you call the supplier as to how they kept it alive during holding?
All things being accounted for, like strong flow and pristine water conditions and every other day feeding of zooplankton, it may take this softy a couple of weeks to come around.
These are beautiful corals, I believe it will turn around after 3-6 months, don't give up and don't over feed your tank. The rest of the tank is more important than one coral.
