Help! New 6000 kicking up sandstorm

Just received the 6000 with the single controller, which dial do I turn to slow down a bit of the flow? It's kicking up a sandstorm and my pair of Jawfish's cave is caught in the middle of it. For some reason Power 1 LED hasn't come on yet and it's constantly lit with Power 2.

Currently I've power set at max, Pulse dial set at midway, Power 1 dial to three-quarter and Power 2 dial to halfway.

Thanks.

Try aiming it from the back corner to the front opposite corner and positioning the pump about 4" from the surface. It sounds like you are in night mode, maybe the photocell is in a dark area? The night mode feature stays at Power 2. During daylight it pulses. The driver must remain at max if you are using a controller.

Thanks for the reply. I will bring the photocell to directly under the light when I get home and see if the LEDs switch or not. It's sitting at the lowest level and it's only about a little over 2" from the surface and and can't bring it any higher as it will blow more wave up at the top. It's hung on the side front section blowing straight across the otherside. I tried to aim it to the back by rotating it but it coming back toward the front probably due to the vibration and there's no lock to keep it stick. The drive (I guess is the metal case with all the power wires) is set at max.

It sounds like you have it mounted upside down, the pump should hang down from the arm, not sit over. If it is mounted properly the teeth on the arm and post should mesh together and hold it where you put it and the pump should be 6" from the surface at the lowest setting on the rail.

Okay, I've to go back to check as it was almost 2am when I install it after adding live rocks into the tank.

If I remember, the pump is attached to the piece with the ring and it sits right on top of the tap from the rail.

Oh one more thing--on the manual it shows that there is a rectangular piece with 3 rings inside that is attached on the outside against the glass but the kit I got didn't have that piece in it and wasn't sure if it apply to the 6000.

I've inserted the rubber rectangle piece into the inside of the plastic piece (the one that goes on outside of the tank but the rubber side is againt the glass) and the screw is on the top of the tank holding the outside and the inside rail piece together.

I hope you can made out with what I wrote and I apologize if it's confusing.

I think you are talking about the fiberglass plates you silicon inside? It is part of the optional kit 3000.26, it appears on page 18 of the manual, at least the manual revision dated- 10/2002-2/2003

Roger,

You hit it right on the button, the photocell wasn't getting enough light and the pump was installed upside down. But somehow I still cannot get it to hold on to the direction I want, after a couple of minutes due to the vibration it tends to turn 45 degrees. However, I'm not getting the sandstorm that I had before. In the future I would like to have the ability to direct it to the direction I want but I guess I will wait till when that time comes unless you have a suggestion.

It's great having you on here to help and I love the setup. Btw--I meant #2 on page 12 but after reading it again it doesn't apply to the 6000.

Thanks again.

Just try again to choose a direction, make sure the mount is more or less level and push the post and the sliding piece from the pump firmly together making sure the teeth mesh. It should hold.

I had the same issue and went to Home Depot to get a nylon washer to use with one of the nylon nut and bolt sets that came with the stream. It doesn't move now

Collins,

Thanks for the info. After installing it correctly it doesn't swing out as much as before but it still moved and need to find something to hold it. My rockwork comes out quite a bit toward the front and even a little tilt on the pump the wave will hit the rocks more than shooting straight thru to the other end.

You wouldn't happen to remember the size would you? How did you know which size will fit or which part did you bring with you to HD for measurement?

Thanks again.

I used the long bolt with the thumb grip and the matching nut. I then bought a washer that was large enough to not go through the opening in the swivel mount.

The size doesn't really matter as long as it is larger than the opening.
