help on return pump.

for a 90 Gallon setup - and 40G sump
will this return pump be good?

i was hoping to make two pipes go up the return and put water back in the aquarium from each side.

but thats just a preference - i can just stick with one if that makes more sense.

The flow rating is alright, but I would get a 1260 or 1262, they aren't that much more expensive and they're much nicer and more reliable.

I agree. Plus you can always dial back your return flow with in line valves if you're worried about it being to powerful.

does one return pipe or split of two matter?

i mean if i just take ONE pipe to the DT

OR

split the pipe from the pump and take TWO to the DT for each corner

does that make a difference?

It's what ever you want to do. I split mine, but I've seen some people use one return.

It will make a difference on water pressure for sure. My opinion is two returns are better than one but thats just an opinion. I've seen one work for people too. If you use one you will have to dial it back quite a bit. They are powerful pumps.

This Ehiem is OK for a 90 better for a 75 if you are not going to manifold it to other utilities such as reactor, chiller, ect. it would be OK . if so you need at least a 1262. Might want to look at Sicce pumps. Prices have down a lot and I am having excellent results with them. Lots of choices in sizes as well.

pressure can very from left to right if return line isn't equal length from T forward, but you could install ball/gate valves to even it out if needed. the pump just pumps regardless of restriction, the goal would be to minimize it as much as possible other than any intended restriction (i.e. ball/gate valves) try to stay away from 90' elbows and such if possible.

I don't think it's strong enough. I used a 950 gph in my 52 gallon with 30 gal sump. Presently use over 2000 in 100 gallon 30 gal sump.

Get one of the several DC pumps and get it oversized. Run half power. It will be absolutely silent, use much less electricity, last a very long time.

I went and returned the pump - and got the 1262 instead... luckily a guy was selling a month old in my area for half the price... checked it works great - i am good to go.
