Help on Urchin

I have had an Urchin for almost 2 years. He is huge. I have noticed in the past few days he is loosing lots of spines. I have never noticed this before. Is it common and I missed it last time or is something going on with him?

Check your alkalinity. I'm not sure what their lifespan is, but watch him. If he loses a majority of his spines, he is pretty well a goner.
