Help, Open Brain problems

I bought an open brain during Macna a couple of weeks ago. At the time he brain looked healthy. Since I have had it in my tank it has slowly declined in health. The flesh is starting to turn white and some of the skeleton is showing. I have been feeding it mysis every 3rd day after lights out. It is about mid-ways up in my tank and every thing else is doing fine.

Are these corals known to die-off for no apparent reason? Can you kill them with too much light? What do you guys think I should try while it is still salvageable?

If it looked healthy just a couple of weeks ago, and it bleached out that fast something is obviously not right.

What kind of lighting is it under? I always keep my open brains in the sandbed. Do you have a photo? What are your water parameters?

I would be feeding it daily if you want to try to bring it back, as well as putting it down in the sandbed.

Trachyphyllias should not be placed in the rocks, they should be on the sandbed. This is their natural placement in the wild. The will abrade and rip theselves on the rocks, which could be what is happening here. Fish and crabs will generally start picking on a wounded Trachy very quickly, especially tangs. I would put it somewhere soft where hungry mouths can't get to it.

Also, what color was the Brain? Green? Red?

Green Trachys come from shallow water, thus more tolerant of light, while Red ones come from deeper locations.
