Help! ORA Oregon tort trouble

peppermint shrimp make me wonder sometimes,Ive heard of them eating SPS- Is that true ??

yes this is true I have seen it. I dont think it is the case here though. If they do go bad they pick out the polyps. If the fragg losed some tissue of the lose stopped then I would not worry I should recover just fine. If it getts worse then I would cutt the good part off and reglew it somewhere.

a good rule I go buy is that any new frag I get always starts at the bottom and then I bring it up week buy week untill It is where I want it. Fraggs get stressed after shipping so throwing it under alot of light kinda makes it worse in some cases.

My bet is the epoxy killed it. When setting it will heat up to the point that its hotter than the sps can take, and kill off what it is touching on the sps. Not uncommon for me to see it die off a week later. JMO

hmm.. well i looked at it again today and it seems that the bleached area is just staying towards the bottom of the frag and the top still looks healthy.. i guess i'll just see what happens.. maybe chop it if i feel bleaching is spearding.

I'm also having trouble with my ORA Oregon tort. I've had it for almost 8 weeks now. It never showed any polyp extension and you can actually see inside the corallites. They look empty, like it doesn't even have polyps. It's faded some and receded along the base. It's been a very slow decline, so I'm hoping I can reverse it. I recently moved it down to the sand where it gets less light and more water flow. My guess right now is that it wasn't getting enough flow, but I'll have to wait and see what happens. You seem to have a healthy portion with good color and polyp extension. If the recession stops progressing you should be alright.

I would bet epoxy too. Didn't RM used to have a warning about not honoring their warranty if you used epoxy to attach their frags?

From whats been written I would guess the same thing.

I've brought ni a few ORA frags this year so far, and they've all started about 6" under the water line, being lit by a 250 DE HQI MH with a Phoenix 14K bulb in it. If I do this with other frags, most will stress out, but I dont have any problems with the ORA frags doing this. I started my "Dustins Deepwater" at the bottom of my frag tank, and it actually browned out on me. I moved it up about a week later, and within a few days it was regaining color. I think between the natural lighting, along with the supplemental light they receive a high intensity, making them more used to the high levels in the tank.

Jefe, have you checked the potassium level in your tank??

i ahve heard that potassium deficiencies will have similar symptoms as you are having...

No, I haven't. Last time I read up on potassium there were no accurate test kits for it, but there may be now. My Cali tort is doing fine, though, so I'm thinking it's just acclimation stress or locally poor water flow.

yeah.. the frag came on one of those black ORA plugs.. and i'd have to agree with Stunreefer.. the ORA frags i have never had a problem being introduced to strong light.. ha untill this oregon
