With the Bengaii Cardinals, instead of buying a pair, it would be easier for you to fine a male and female seperately and add them to your tank. They should pair up themselves rather quickly and begin breeding. They seem to be one of the easiest fish out there to pair up and breed, but keep the babies to adulthood is the hard part.

The babies require live foods, baby brine shrimp when they first hatch, and then you need to start weaning them onto some of the frozen foods like cyclopeeze and then some of the flake cyclopeeze if you can. You will be lucky if you have about half the fry survive per batch.

As for the cost for a breeding pair of Onyx or Gold Stripe Maroons, you would be looking at around $300 - $500 for each confirmed breeding pair depending on the lineage of them.

Nebthet i'm sorry but your wrong, it's MUCH easier to purchase banggai as a pair, because it is IMPOSSIBLE to tell male from female, they is no sexual dimorphism with cardinal fish, the easiest way is actually to buy several cardinals (4-5) wait till they pair off then separate the pairs.

theres also many other foods out there than using BBS, Otohime larval food is #1.

sometimes you can tell the sex of a bangaii by the jaw line shape. It is easy to buy 3 or 4 of them and wait for them to pair off though.

yes but the jawline only changes when the male is holding the eggs, otherwise they look exactly the same, if you find one with the slightly wider jaw-line the mate should be close by

You can tell the sex of banggai using the venting method. However it is difficult to do this when the banggai cardinals are still young.

You have to check the small fins in between the pectoral and the anal fin.

1 small fin = Female
2 small fins = Male
