My clownfish pairs are dying! I have 2 Ocellaris clowns that I have had for a year, They have always been doing good, until today, the female is dying fast, the male is still alive but breathing fast as hell, I notice discoloration of the stomach on both and discoloration of the fins on the female what can be wrong! Should I worry about the goby and firefish that reside there too?!!?!

Im sure its not ich, not sure what the other 2 are but they are dying fast. they where perfectly fine yesterday. No changes have been done, parameters are perfect

Have any new fish been added? Fast respiration, along with noticeable slime on the skin is usually a brook infection or bad velvet infection and can take out your entire fish population quickly.

Very strange, I take it you tested for ammonia, nitrite, nitrates, and pH? If so what are those numbers along with the salinity. Too me it seems like some sort of parasitic infection took out the fish relatively quickly (probably brooklynella (sp?) or amyloodinium).

Sorry for your loss. How are the other fish reacting? Any changes with them?

The male, he is still alive, I put him in a bucket apart, so if he has something it does not spread but he looks ok not good, just ok, My goby and Fire fish are perfectly fine, I have no Idea what happen :( those clowns where my first fishes too :(

my clowns have this brooklynella disease how do you treat for this in a reef tank?? i do not have a qt or hospital tank..

I've been lucky enough to never have to treat, but I do not believe it will survive in a reef tank with this disease. The treatments call for hypo and/or medicines that are not indicated for reef use without serious die-off. Search this forum for brook and you should find lots of information.

Hypo is the best way to treat brook. My brother went through that when he purchased the clown pair in his(now my) tank.

Followed the treatment regiment on this forum and they are alive and well today. Brook free ever since. Hypo is the way to go.

You sure you didn't add any frags/inverts/fish/equipment etc. recently?

I buy a couple frags weekly as well as maybe a fish every 2 weeks.. just started back up my reeftank..about 3 months ago

Be quick about this though, mine died fast. Everthing was fine the night before, Lights go off at 12. Go on at 2 pm next day, fish dies at 6 something pm. So Less than 24 hours did he survive after the symptoms.

I guess I have some super clowns they have had this brooklynella for over a month now.. I have tried kordons rid fungus and that was worthless.. gonna try Ruby reef rally on Fri when I get paid.. I think I must have some super clowns to Have lasted this long.. although their immune system should be strong with the food they r fed
