I have a juvile blueline clown that i am trying to introduce into 900 litre tank to pair with an existing (presume female ) clown that has been on its own for 6 months. Its giving the little one hell every night new one is in over flow it outright attacks it till it jumps out of the water ,this has been going on for two weeks ,I have used mirrors and also moved all rock around in tank .Is there anyone who has had same problem and overcome this ?:eek2: :eek2: :eek2:

Do you think I should give up with trying to pair Blueline clowns as the jouvinile is constantly chased to the over flow by big moma .Would removing the large female for a couple of days help at all by letting the jouvinile settle into the tank.

beautiful chrysopterus, she looks very nice in the RBTA.

I haven't heard of people having so much trouble pairing clarkii complex clowns.

Give us some more details after you've read the pairing FAQ at the top of the forum.

Chrysopterus can be extremely tough to pair. There are records of a certain female blueline on RC who wacked a few males before finally accepting a suitor.

Kevan,

You may have to go with a much smaller specimen. You can try segmenting the tank so they can see each other or even moving them both to new quarters. Unfortunately, it will always be up to the female to decide if she wants to share her space.

Best of luck in the process.

If you try agian, try keeping the juvi in an observation container close to the females sleeping area. so she can see him but not bite him. when shes calmed enough (a day, 3 days whatever it takes) then try letting him out.

I used a clear plastic shampoo holder container with suction cups and covered the top with needlepoint sheet

thanks for the info. I didn't realize chrys were so much tougher to pair than other clarkii complex.

thanks for info

thanks for info

I read thru pairing clowns, at the moment the jouvinile is back in overflow and the female can see it but ignores it completly. Would it have been easier with a male or let jouvinile change thru to male before re introducing it. I know it was a jouvinile as it came from a trio of clowns.

still going

still going

well I left jouvenile in overflow for a week and on Sunday put back in tank .Still in there at end of night but still no sign of getting on.
Jouvenile seems to be tormenting comes out and sits halfway toward anemony then larg female chases it round back and as soon as she goes into anemony he's back as if saying "here I am come and get me".

That sounds faily normal. It took one clarkii I have about 4 months to let the sub-dominant fish near it's anemone. At first the larger fish (they are both still juvie) would chase the smaller fish away every time it got in line of site from the anemone. The little guy never gave up though and eventually (after about 3 months) the litle fish was allowed to sleep under the oral disk. Now the little fish is allowed to be on the outside edges of the anemone but usually still sleeps under the oral disk.

Just an update on progress .I left jouvinil in overflow for a week then when I brough it out it seem to be able to handle being chased all the time . just over a month on and the fun is still going on he come as close to Her anemone as he can and shimmies them she chases him round and round untill he dives into a hole and the process starts again (realy fun to watch) he seems to be okay eating alright and healthie , he dose seem to look after himself okay.

Seems like a long time... :D

as long as he's healthy and eating I wouldn't worry about him. You may have to change him out for another male/juvie in a few months if you want eggs. (assuming she doesn't accept him in that time)

My juvi maroon did that. He would swim from pump to pump hiding from the female.. but once he noticed the anemone there was no stopping him. He wanted in bad. He would sneak up and start touching it (acclimating himself) and she'd run after him. He'd shimmi like crazy but refuse to budge from the tips of the nem.

It only took a few days for her to give up chasing him though.
I hope yours accepts him soon. If not.. Id probley try a new one. Living in constant stress eatting or not would not be fun

OHHHH man!!! I am so jealous of you!! I having been trying to get a pair of blue stripes for 2 years!

good luck with those guys
