hey guys ive gone through the stickied posts on the subject but i still cant do one simple thing: compress my pics to 100k.

i have a cannon digital eos rebel and i set it to small/poor quality.
yet even having done this most of the small pictures are about 800k.

so my questions are:

can someone please explain to me how to compress photos?

does it help to set my camera to small/poor quality or can i set it to a higher quality and still post them here?

thanks guys.

ps: i have already downloaded irfanview.

I would leave your camera settings on the highest quality. With the cost of memory cards, writable cd's, and huge hard drives I would never shoot with anything but the best.

Then in your post processing program, save a jpeg copy resized to 640x480 pixels. Or if space allow 800 pixels on the long side. Then you should be fine.

Have you read this article? It runs you thru the steps to resize an image and post it here in a thread.
There are two parts to resizing an image- shrinking the dimensions from what comes out of the camera to 800x600 for instance, and compressing the image. The compression is very important and without it you end up with very big file sizes, even with small width/height dimensions.
