So today I came home from work and my clown is dead in QT. He was being cured from ick. I cant get my damsel out of the display tank. If I cant get the damsel out, how will I know when the ick is gone?

Thanks.

but will the ick go away with a fish in the tank, since the ich has a host, wont it continue to strive?

Just don't buy any fish for a month, then add a fish and see what happens. The clown most likely died from NH3 stess, not from ich.

I think there's a bit of a misunderstanding here. Let's see if I'm understanding you correctly. You were treating your Clownfish in a QT tank, for Ich. In the meantime, you have a Damsel in the display tank, that has been subjected to Ich. Correct?

If this is the case, you'll never be able to be sure that your display tank is Ich free. All fish have to be removed from the display for at least 8 weeks.

I had pretty good luck with a fish trap, just don't feed for a few days then drop the trap in there with food in it, that should do the trick. Good luck!

Well youre right for the most part, except my damsel shows no signs of ich, but the ich still has a host so he needs to come out regardless if he has it or not, correct? The main goal here is to make the ich not have a host. As far as I understand. Im going to keep trying, worse comes to worse I have to remove the rock and add it back in...

fish traps are good if there is more than one fish in there but since its just the damsel then you should just get the smallest fish hook you can find and go fishing ;)

Even if the damsel never shows signs of ich, they are tough little buggers, yes he is still a host. It needs to come out..leave the tank empty for minimum 6 weeks and start again..quarentine each new addition. Yes it's a pain, but a year or two when all are healthy and your tank looks great you will be happy.

^Yeah, I am really trying to do things right from the begining, so im sure Ill get him out at some point this weekend.
