help red slime algae!!!!!

guys help red slime algae taking over my tank. ive been having probelms with red slime algae for over month it was on my sand and 2 weeks ago i added more lights and now i have red slime algae all over my rock nd even on some of my corals help. idk what to do i need a 40gallon water change 2 days ago nd still havent seen any changes
 
How long has this tank been up? Tank size? Flow? Give us the details on you system. Post your most recent test results.
 
I would consider doing a three day blackout. Do you have macroalgae to consume excess nutrients? Too much lighting and nitrate/phosphate rich water can lead to red slime events.
 
my tank is 150g. i think what caused it was i used tap water couple of months ago. i have little chaeto in my refugium. the tank has been running for over 6 months. my water is fine nitrate 5< i dont have phosphate test kit. but everything else seems to be looking good. idk what to do. i know phosban helps but that wont help on the long run i want a natural way to do it.
 
You need to lower the nitrate. I would also buy a phosphate test. Try carbon dosing or adding more macros to your refugium.

Poor flow, lighting issues and a new tank are all cyano causes. Once a tank is mature and bacterial colonies are established and mature it's a lot easier to control cyano.

Blackouts are a great way to kick cyano. Just make sure your addressing the cause like lighting issues etc. otherwise it will just come back.
 
i just addeed ultra life red slime remover. lets see how that goes. btw question does the protein skimmer need to be off while using this product?
 
Your skimmer is going to be busy rescuing your tank from the dieoff. Skim wet and keep it going 24/7.
 
My tank is fairly new so I had a Cyanobacteria outbreak really bad. I did the 3 day blackout and it got rid of everything. Since then I have only had a tiny patch that comes and goes. It was like a total reset of my tank.
 
I kicked my serious cyano issue by running carbon and phosphate remover granules, adding another powerhead, and two big water changes. Didn't need slime remover at all. Months later, I have a few tiny spots, but nothing huge.
 
New set ups typically develop cyanobacteria blooms. You may never know what triggers a particular bloom nor why it goes away. There is no fast "natural" way to end a red slime bloom. Figure on weeks passing before you see a reduction.

Reducing nitrate and phosphate levels is common advice as is reducing dissolved organic material. Physical removal of the red slime will improve the aquarium appearance but don't go crazy trying to remove 100% of it. With the aquarium looking a little neater, you'll be a little more patient.

Lights out for three days seems to help in many situations appears not to harm the inhabitants. Take time to ensure your skimmer is working and review the amount of food you are adding to the aquarium every day.
 
I had a cyanocobalamin problem too. I believe that the cause was a under proforming skimmer. Bought a new skimmer that could handle double of the rank volume and within 2 weeks cyano was gone
